S61mouse-support-x86 is Linux-specific, but installed unconditionally.
Patch attached.

logo_debian.png also displays a "GNU/Linux" label even on non-Linux
ports. For simplicity I propose a logo with blank background (which
is a graphical editing task even I can do!). PNG attached.

Package: debian-installer
Version: 20090123
Severity: important

I tried installing Emdebian Grip 1.0 using the preseeding method suggested at:
http://buildd.emdebian.org/grip/

and the preseeding fails in two ways:
1. First, you do not get a screen (after network detection) which asks you to
enter the url of preseeding.
http://lists.debian.org/debian-embedded/2009/02/msg00135.html

2. Even if you pass boot parameters at command line (url=), the preseeding
still fails.
http://lists.debian.org/debian-embedded/2009/02/msg00145.html

The Debian Lenny documentation mentions about preseeding - Either we shold
remove it from the docs or get it fixed in next stable update.

Thanks

Bug#624719: Removed package(s) from unstable

2011-05-01 Thread Debian FTP Masters
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

ai-console-setup-udeb |1.9 | all
ai-kbd-chooser |1.9 | all
ai-localechooser |1.9 | all
auto-install |1.9 | source, all
auto-install-nonet |1.9 | all

--- Reason ---
ROM; unused
--

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

We try to close Bugs which have been reported against this package
automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they where closed
correctly or should have been re-assign to another package.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 624...@bugs.debian.org.

Let's go with touchkbd, then!

I've tried to open an alioth project for it, but it got rejected, as I'm
not a DM. Either someone here could convince alioth admins to create
this project, or it could be put elsewhere.

Although I would prefer a separate project, I'm fine with it being
maintained under say, d-i/touchkbd.git.

Bug#624815: os-prober produces garbage when menu.lst has titles containing asterisks ("*")

2011-05-01 Thread Mi

Package: os-prober
Version: 1.42

I have a partition with a menu.lst file containing the following line:

title * Lenny2 Debian 5.0.5, 2.6.26-2-amd64 on /dev/disk/by-label/root

When running update-grub, this produces a very long garbage entry in grub.cfg:

menuentry "bin boot cdrom dev etc home [etc.] Lenny2 [the rest of the title] (on
/dev/sdb2)" {

The asterisk was expanded to the content of the directory I happened to be in
when running update-grub.

update-grub runs /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober, which runs linux-boot-prober, which
runs /usr/lib/linux-boot-probes/mounted/40grub.

The problem comes from line 39 of /usr/lib/linux-boot-probes/mounted/40grub,
which is

set -- $line

At that point, the $line variable containing the title line with the asterisk
is expanded, and $2 is the first file in the current directory, $3 the next,
etc.

I'm not sure what the best solution would be, but the resulting grub2 menu
looks really weird, and it was quite time-consuming to find what was causing it.

Fortunately, I had no title in menu.lst with entries like $(rm -rf) ...

Bug#624815: os-prober produces garbage when menu.lst has titles containing asterisks ("*")

2011-05-01 Thread Mi

It looks it would be enough to enclose "set -- $line" between "set -f" and "set
+f" to prevent wildcard expansion and solve this problem.

The patch below seems to work for me, and produced a correct menuentry in
grub.cfg:

menuentry "* Lenny2 Debian 5.0.5, 2.6.26-2-amd64 on /dev/disk/by-label/root (on
/dev/sdb2)" {

Bug#624801: console-setup: [INTL:ja] please add Japanese po-debconf template translation (ja.po)

Thanks for your contribution.

However, console-setup debconf messages are, as the PO file header
says, generated from the main Debian Installer PO files, which are
regularly maintained by Muto-san.

Kenshi, would you mind looking at this bug report and eventually merge
these translations, if you're OK with them, with your work in master
D-I files?

Many thanks in advance.

Yes, I've committed such a fix to numerous places in os-prober git
already. Sorry for the duplicate work; thanks for your analysis!

Bug#624832: MAKEDEV not found http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/d/debootstrap/debootstrap_1.0.26+squeeze1_all.deb

2011-05-01 Thread Boris Le Ninivin

Package: debootstrap
Version: 1.0.26+squeeze1_all

I've followed the method described here
http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/apds03.html.en to install Debian on
a distant server. Everything worked fine until I tried to use MAKEDEV.

$ cd /dev
$ MAKEDEV generic
bash: MAKEDEV: command not found
$ find / -name "MAKEDEV"
$

I suggest to add MAKEDEV to files which are installed by debootstrap.

I am using GNU/Linux 2.6.36.2 (custom kernel : sdf125-core2-32 from SD-France)
i686.

debian #624343 affects debian-installer

2011-05-01 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
affects 624343 debian-installer
thanks

I note that debian-installer happily creates LVM-over-RAID and
dmcrypt-over-RAID setups (and lvm-over-dmcrypt-over-RAID setups, for
that matter), and provides no warnings to the admin that these RAiD
setups may not be re-syncable in the face of hardware failure without
taking their associated filesystems offline (or obeying some other
unnamed constraints).

I've marked this bug as affecting debian-installer because this seems to
potentially surprising to administrators using d-i to set up their
systems. Perhaps d-i should prefer alternate block device layerings
that do not have these constraints?

Regards,

--dkg
