Bug#528847: d-i partitioner fails on Sun disklabel

Chose manual partitioning from the menu. Walked through the partitioning process as normal, and quickly discovered that it wasn't doing as it was told. /dev/sda (2.1GB disk)- Created 100mb /boot ext2 partition Created 100mb swap partition Attempted to create remaining 1.9GB partition - ended up with ~700KB. Similar story for /dev/sdb (same size). Did a little poking around with the partition tools in the shell during the standard install. Discovered that the disklabel was initially written to the disk with the correct geometry, but after the creation of the first partition on the disk, the disklabel now indicates a much smaller disk with significantly different geometry. Did not attempt to write to disk - it would have been pointless anyway because the effective usable size of the disk was ~200MB. Had to partition the disks manually from expert mode's shell using parted directly. After rewriting the disklabel, I was able to partition the drive properly. Rebooted out of expert mode (No real reason), reloaded in standard mode, ran through again, only using the partitioning menu to assign the mountpoints and filesystems. Everything worked as expected from that point forward. This system will be getting new drives in the next week or so, at which point I'll be able to use it to reproduce and further debug this problem if needed. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: code swarm video

Managed it after all with ffmpeg after creating a chroot with d-multimedia packages (installing them on my stable system broke AVI playback in vlc). I'm currently uploading my variant in two versions: one of 4:33 minutes and that's 1/3 slower at 6:50. They are identical except for the speed (size is the same: 179MB). I personally prefer the second one. After the upload is complete, they should be available as: - http://people.debian.org/~fjp/tmp/d-i/d-i_swarm_4m.avi - http://people.debian.org/~fjp/tmp/d-i/d-i_swarm_6m.avi It's not as spectacular as Joey's version, but shows much more detail. For some reason they display a lot brighter on the LVD screen of my laptop than on the external CRT monitor. I'll leave them up for a month or so. Bug#528224: fixed
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following package(s) have been removed from unstable: etch-support | 0.04 | source, all Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug. The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the earliest. Packages are never removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency problems. Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package was superseded by another one. Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you have further comments please address them to 528...@bugs.debian.org. The full log for this bug can be viewed at http://bugs.debian.org/528224 This message was generated automatically; if you believe that there is a problem with it please contact the archive administrators by mailing ftpmas...@debian.org. Re: Request for help - cleaning spam from the debian-boot mailing list archive
On Sunday 03 May 2009, Frans Pop wrote: > I'm looking forward to a cleaner archive! If we share the workload a > bit, that should be possible. First of all: many thanks for the great response to this RFH! Progress on the review of the archive has been huge. Since the start over 11,000 nominations as spam have been submitted and about 3400 reviews have been done. This has already resulted in 676 spams being removed from the archive and for this week another 650 posts are waiting for review. We now have a solid team working on this and if we keep this up it looks that in 4 or 5 weeks we can have d-boot virtually clean of spam for 2006 and later. Current status can be seen on: http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/SpamClean Additional help to scan the archive and nominate posts is always welcome. Bug#528914: Package: installation-reports (rootfs full)
Quoting Stephan Hilliger (step...@snackattack1.dyndns.org): > Hi Christian, > I had 3 SMP Kernel directories in the partition. > I deleteted 2 older kernel directories. > > The problem was, > I can`t install any other software-package with atp or aptitude. > The failed software was snort all_deb.pkg. > > It isn`t install in root. > > This was no problem of the kernel flavours, becourse the latest running > kernel installed is /2.6.26-2-686/kernel. Uh? That's becoming less and less clear. Your original bug report pointed to the root partition being filled at some moment and causing the package install failures. Then, you mention that cleaning out the root partition solved the problem. Packages often install stuff in /.at least files in /etc. Here you seem to mention snort which, for instance, copies a few files in /etc. So, well, what's currently said is "if the root partition is full, then packages that install files in the root partition fail to install". I would say this is expected..:-) So, the only "bug" one could see is the suggestion of making the root partition big enough to accomodate further changes by the local admin. This is actually what I thought you were suggesting: that the root partition should be at least able to accomodate with 2 kernel flavours as that often happens in a machine's life. That, I would agree with and this is why I finally didn't close the bug and reassigned it to partman-auto. However, you now mention that you actually had *three* living kernel flavours in a 260MB partition. I would say it is then expected that the partition fills in and makes packages intallation fail. So, pretty much normal behaviour here and not really something we can do much about: reserving more space for the root partition because sometimes users might want to install 3 kernel flavours at the same time would be kind of a waste. So, I would say it is then up to the local admin to not accept the proposed defaults for / when doing autopartitioning with a separated /usr, /var and /home if (s)he plans to install many packages that could fill up / So, I consider closing this bug again. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: Request for help - cleaning spam from the debian-boot mailing list archive
(cleaning spam in debian-boot: see http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/SpamClean) Quoting Frans Pop (elen...@planet.nl): > have been done. This has already resulted in 676 spams being removed from > the archive and for this week another 650 posts are waiting for review. Done this morning. No ham found, only Spam. I found out that I inadvertently left a few posts rated as "Unsure" which i apparently not really easy to come back on once you've clicked "Send and Continue". That happens because my fast "Click, Page Down" repetitions on the page sometimes fails (the click does not change the button status to "Spam". So, my reviews for this week probably have a few (less than 10) posts erroneously rated as "Unsure" while everything was spam, unboubtfully. > > We now have a solid team working on this and if we keep this up it looks > that in 4 or 5 weeks we can have d-boot virtually clean of spam for 2006 > and later. I wish we would have as many people working on patches to D-I..:-) A few enhancements I would propose to listmasters (or anyone behind the review tool): - have a display mode for the list archives where messages already "nominated" would be shown in a different way (maybe sorting messages by number of spam nominations?). That would help those people who review archives after 1 or 2 people already did it to spot possible spam more easily - allow reviewing more than 10 nominated posts at a time. This is probably what slows me down the most when reviewing. For the record, this morning, I spent about 40 minutes reviewing 550 nominated posts. - allow coming back on messages one once rated as "Unsure" Finally, once we've done 2006-2009, I think we should post something in http://wiki.debian.org/DeveloperNews. I don't know whether other people are doing such reviews but the method you (Frans) proposed and which we nos use could indeed bring emulation in other lists. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Hmmm, all these are marked done because #520711 was closed on Apr 26th after some confirmation that nobody experienced it anymore. But, at that time, it wasn't clear that the bug was still here but only visible when installing squeeze with the lenny installer. That was apparently wrong: from #528929, the lenny installer still can't install squeeze. Re-opening. It seems that this issue should get some priority. Bug#528993: Package: Installation Report
Quoting Pete Theisen (petethei...@verizon.net): > Configure network: [E] sees dsl router, connects to web but not local net That's unclear. Did the install use the network and, if so, did it work. Advanced use of nVidia cards is much out of the scope of the installer and more something that has to do with X packages. Please note that nVidia is (IIRC, I'm not that much in that hardware business) not known for its friendlyness to provide open source drivers. For advanced features, you might then need to get their non free drivers. Most problems you describe do not pertain to the installer itself, apparently, but more seem to be installation tuning, after the install. In such cases, we often have no other option than closing the bug report, except when there is a clear package which we can reassign the bug to. But, for this, problems have to be made clear before... signature.asc Description: Digital signature
