Please just go ahead with the upload. However, if there are any major changes in the font that could affect the udeb or cause a significant change in its size, it would be nice to hear about those. retrieve a package's questions for debconf-set-selections
Hi, I'd like to use debconf-set-selections to pre-seed the debconf database with answers. But how can I retrieve/extract/query the questions that the .deb file will ask me? For example, that could be used for the java .deb to accept terms and conditions for an automatic installation. Thanks. If you want to preseed answers during an installation you should not use debconf-set-selections directly, but rather make use of the preconfiguration functionality of the installer. How to get correct values to set is explained in the installation guide: http://www.debian.org/releases/testing/i386/apbs03.html.en Note that you should set only those specific templates/questions you wish to avoid and not just any template that exists after an installation. Also make sure that you check any legal consequences of "skipping" licencing questions. Cheers, FJP signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Hmmm. That's not nice for the memory usage of the graphical installer. It would be good to look into that before the new version is uploaded. Davide Viti is our current "fonts manager". Bug#485447: tasksel: Rename Northern Sami to North Sámi and add hunspell-se package
Package: tasksel Version: 2.74.2 Severity: minor Based on input from the Divvun project, I believe the language name for the 'se' language code should be changed from Northern Sami to North Sámi. The task files should because of this probably change name from nothernsami to northsami. Also, as the Divvun project just released a hunspell language file for North Sámi and this is uploaded to Debian and waiting in NEW, I suggest adding the package hunspell-se to the northsami task, to make sure it is installed by default when the language is selected for installation in Lenny. There is no northern-sami/north-sami task, only northern-sami-*-desktop. But maybe a north-sami task should be created and hunspell-se added to it (when available), since there are no North Sámi dictionaries for other spellcheckers. nslu2: status of beta2
The bad news is that the official d-i beta2 won't start on the NSLU2 because the kernel fails to load the ramdisk. This is a combination of a new APEX moving to testing recently and the d-i image not dealing with that change. The good news is that a) nobody uses the official images because they don't contain the proprietary microcode needed for networking and b) the problem is only with the way the d-i image is put together, not with the installer itself. This means that I've just made images with the microcode for slug-firmware.net that are done in a way that they will boot. So people will be able to use beta2 on their NSLU2. I've also commited a fix to the d-i repo already. Sorry for not catching this earlier but I was traveling a lot recently. -- Martin Michlmayr http://www.cyrius.com/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". OK. But in this case I was wrong, almost all myspell/hunspell packages are in the non-desktop tasks. Which is perhaps a bit wasteful since no hunspell package is installed by default on non-desktop systems. -- Pelle -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". mirror and language selection not working together well
A few weeks ago something changed regarding the way the country is chosen. Right now, the mirror and language selection don't work together very well: I tell the mirror selection tool which country I live in, but the country/language selection tool doesn't default to that country. When I go through d-i, this is what happens: Choose a mirror of the Debian archive - Austria Choose language (Choose a continent or region): Africa, Antartica, etc - Europe Choose language (Choose a country, territory or area): Albania, Andorra, etc - Austria Why is Africa the country rather than Europe (1st language question), and Albania rather than Austria (2nd language question)? It would be nice to figure out based on the mirror which contintent/country I might be in. -- Martin Michlmayr http://www.cyrius.com/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". It would be > nice to figure out based on the mirror which contintent/country I > might be in. Correct mle if I'm wrong, but you're actually in a situation where the country is asked *after* mirror. IIRC, this happens on some architectures (for size constraints, IIRC). More or less, nothing was really planned to work in such situations and I guess that the deep changes to localechooser (which improved it a *lot*) have missed that "feature" (which might very well have been just accidental) and broke it inadvertently. I think we can probably add some logic in localechooser to get it preseeded by the mirror's contry, though. However, we should be careful about not breaking some other logic...which might be very much important or frequent to happen. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

It would be > nice to figure out based on the mirror which contintent/country I > might be in. AFAIK localechooser has never taken defaults from mirror selection as they are normally run the other way around, so there is no regression. There are only a few installation images where localechooser is "forcibly" run later. Now that localechooser consistently uses country codes instead of country names, setting a default based on mirror selection is in theory possible but I can't say that implementing this is high on my current priority list and there are some caveats that should be considered. Here's what I can think of right now: - manual entry of a local mirror - when FTP is selected (no mirror list), the mirror country will still be set (default value for language - frequently not set correctly) - a lot of countries don't have mirrors, so in those cases you'd end up with a default that's probably somewhat nearby, but not correct - in case where the language is also selected, the default country for the language may well be better than the value chosen for a mirror Feel free to file a wishlist BR against localechooser for adding this new support. It's certainly a fairly minor thing; but if you can improve the situation without breaking anything else, that'd be great. -- Martin Michlmayr http://www.cyrius.com/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#485447: tasksel: Rename Northern Sami to North Sámi and add hunspell-se package

While I very much welcome the change in "localized" name you did in localechooser, I have to mention that I'm less keen to encourage such change in tasksel, either in the file name or, more important in the task *description*. The English name of the language *in the ISO-639 standard* is "Northern Sami", see http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/code_list.php In all tasks we have tried to use the officially standardized name of the relevant language. I suggest we stick up with that choice. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Post D-I release hints
Now that Beta 2 has been released, the following packages can be hinted for migration: * remove the block hint for apt (set on request from Otavio) * hints for packages with udebs, probably routine/safe: unblock brltty/3.10~r3724-1 unblock cpuburn/1.4-33 unblock devmapper/2:1.02.25-1 unblock dhcp3/3.1.1-1 unblock kbd/1.14.1-3 unblock ttf-cjk-compact/1.13 unblock ttf-dejavu/2.25-1 * the following should probably be checked by RT too before hinting: unblock openssh/1:4.7p1-12 unblock openssl/0.9.8g-10.1 unblock directfb/1.0.1-9 unblock gtk2-engines/1:2.14.2-1 * the following are not ready: - gnupg (37 days old, missing hppa) - multipath (23 days old, missing alpha+hppa) Please also sync the udebs after migration. The udebs for ltsp appear to be out of sync currently. Cheers, FJP signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

The hunspell program can work with either myspell or hunspell dictionaries. Hunspell is merely an extension of myspell AIUI. Only a few languages have "hunspell" dictionaries. Re: Re: di-netboot-assistant - Debian-Installer netboot assistant
Hello, Sorry for my late reply, but I was busy implementing some changes in di-netboot-installer[1]. I've uploaded a new release[2]. I hope it's now clearer. The "dhcpd.conf" sample is now meant for multi-arch users (i.e It's too complex to be useful)... I'm now considering to build dhcp snippets for each retrieved repository. > When restarting dhcpd, I keep getting: > /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf line 28: no option space named pxelinux. > option pxelinux.magic That's odd, since my dhcp server is etch's 3.0.4-13 Do you have a section like this, somewhere above line #28 ? option space pxelinux; option pxelinux.magic code 208 = string; # 0xd0 option pxelinux.configfile code 209 = text; # 0xd1 option pxelinux.pathprefix code 210 = text; # 0xd2 option pxelinux.reboottime code 211 = unsigned integer 32; # 0xd3 > Once that is solved I'd be interested to try to get it to work for sparc > and hppa. That's now supported, ia64 too. However I haven't implemented arm/armel,mips/mipsel and powerpc/powerpc64. That's because I have too issues : 1. Some architecture don't provide a tar ball (which is the only way to be sure to retrieve all required file reliably, IMO). 2. They have multiple netboot image flavours. Do you have any suggestion (before I ask for a sponsor on mentors.d.n) ? This is quite likely a known issue listed in the errata [1] with the version of syslinux in Etch. Could you try one of the alternative images linked to from that page [2]?
