Need permission to cvs apt

2004-07-03 Thread Tapio Lehtonen
I'm going to translate to finnish the remaining packages for Debian
Installer. Seems I do not have the necessary permissions for apt:

$ cvs -z3 -d:ext:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvs/deity co apt
Enter passphrase for key '/home/tale/.ssh/id_rsa':
cvs server: Updating apt
cvs server: failed to create lock directory for `/cvs/deity/apt'
(/cvs/deity/apt/#cvs.lock): Permission denied
cvs server: failed to obtain dir lock in repository `/cvs/deity/apt'
cvs [server aborted]: read lock failed - giving up
(wd now: ~/Work/Debian/3rd-Stage)
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~/Work/Debian/3rd-Stage

I'll try translating dpkg also, but perhaps I need permissions for
that also?

Or is it better to just send wishlist bugs with localisation tag?

Here are the files from new installation. The cron job might be caused by automatic
reporting of most frequently used packages to debian.

Re: Ideas thrown around for Fully Automated Installations

2004-07-03 Thread C. Gatzemeier

Hi *!

Another idea I'd like to throw in is to also keep an eye on m23 and coordinate
ideas.
m23 offers a complete software distribution system for debian.

If the remote job fetching could be made compatible, that would be really
great allowing standard d-i images to be distributed, installed and
maintained remotely from a central install server. That server allready
exists and works, it just needs modified install images for now.

Patches for Bug#251550

2004-07-03 Thread Recai Oktas
Hi,

I've created two patch sets:

  http://l10n-turkish.alioth.debian.org/kbd/kbd-chooser-1.patch
  http://l10n-turkish.alioth.debian.org/kbd/kbd-chooser-2.patch

* kbd-chooser-1.patch:
  - Activate unicode mode in d-i console.

This resolves the "keyboard freeze" issue (#251550).

* kbd-chooser-2.patch:
  - Apply Denis's patch.
  - Use a global 'file_descriptor' variable instead of multiple getfd()
calls.

This resolves the problem of Turkish unicode keymap. I don't know
whether it could also resolve the problem of Ukrainian keymap.

I've also built a new kbd-chooser udeb with the patches above applied.

  http://l10n-turkish.alioth.debian.org/kbd/kbd-chooser_0.56_i386.udeb

Could you review and test them?

If it would be possible to provide daily PXE or Etherboot d-i images that
might help. People could let their boot servers serve up those and quickly
test most functionality on garden variety hardware.

When trying to install using either the 2.4 or the 2.6 kernel, the

This particular problem did not happen with beta4 (although there were
other problems with respect to ide-cd under 2.6 and my wireless LAN
PCMCIA card).

The last few boot message lines for the 2.4 kernel are:
VFS: mounted root (ext2 filesystem).
Trying to move old root to /initrd ... okay
Mounted devfs on /dev

The last few boot message lines for the 2.6 kernel are:

Trying to move old root to /initrd ... okay
Mounted devfs on /dev

Setting up filesystem, please wait ...
NET: Registered protocol family 1
I also tried adding the boot parameters "noapic nolapic
debian-installer/framebuffer=false" for both kernels and I got the same
results.

Im sorry to tell you but m23 is not intended to do full automatic
installations acording to its authors. It has nice web based guis that
simplify mass installations, but that's not usefull for fully automatic
installs.

Again, these files are clearly /var/log/messages and

* RAID1 is hopeless

* ugh, this is distressing. d-i created a swap partition but did not

A visit to http://www.nl.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ports-status

GSC-100 is generic sildenafil citrate in 100mg form for just 2.39 per 50mg.

Don't be fooled by herbal equivalents, which generally are just placebos.
Get the real version for just 2.38/dose.

Ordering is easy and takes only five minutes.

Zip Disk installation....

2004-07-03 Thread Bert Emert

Dear Debian...

While I am an experianced Tech,
I am new to Linux installation.  My plan is to install Linux onto a
486/100 laptop.  IN this regard, I have a few questions?

What version of Debian would you
suggest?

    Can Debian installed from a
(100mb) zip disk?

        If
yes...

        Is there a
particular image I can RawWrite to the zip drive?

        Or, can I use
the same image as a CD...

    Another is my Panasonic
KXL-D720, PCMCIA CD/ROM Player.  However, I have searched High and lo for a
Linux disk that will boot and read this CD, without success.  If you have
Linux boot image to offer please let me know.

I am not currently able to hook
this laptop to the internet directly, so I am not certain what other
possibilites are available...  Thanks for your assistance.
  Sincerely,
Bert Emert   ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

I use WOODY.

It depends, whether your ZIP-Drive is botagle under a 486 or not.

>If yes...
>
>Is there a particular image I can RawWrite to the zip drive?

1) Make the ZIP-Disk bootable from windows.
2) Copy the loadlin.exe onto the ZIP-Disk
3) Copy the desired rescue.bin, root.bin and drivers.tgz onto it
4) Use the file install.bat and rename it to autoexec.bat
5) correct the path to the files in it.

6) Boot your computer with the ZIP-Disk.

>Or, can I use the same image as a CD...

NO

I think, your CD-Rom will not be bootable on a 486...
But you can download the FIRST CD-Image of WOODY AND the rescue.bin,
root.bin and the four drives-X.bin and put the six images onto floppy
disks...

If you have NIC with fast net access, I recommend floppy(not exceeding
9 disks) + NIC (PCMCIA). It works (tested in Woody)

If I remember product name correctly, you have the same Panasonic
KXL-D720, PCMCIA CD/ROM Player as I had for my i486/50MHz :-)

This is one of the rare CD not supported under Linux. I tossed it.

Oh, you are posting debian-boot. This list is usually for
debian-installer. This debian-installer is next generation installer
for sarge but for old small memory machine, it is not very kind yet.
If you have 48 MB or so, you may play with it for fun of debugging like
us.

Net-booting d-i works fairly well.

This will give you command line checkouts for all packages we mention
on translation status pages.

Some of them do not have wide open commit policy : then you need
filing wishlist bugs with l10n tag and possible [l10n:fi]
titlesdpkg and apt maintainers will most often commit quite
quickly these files and release very regularly.

Status of shadow package

2004-07-03 Thread Christian Perrier
I want to give you folks some good news for the shadow package.

After several NMU's from myself for l10n handling, Karl Ramm, the
official package maintainer, made an upload of a 4.0.3-29 version,
ackonowledging all bugs I fixed in NMU's.

A RC bug for some nitpicking license issues remains, but is currently
discussed with ppl in debian-legal.

Karl and I discussed about his CVS repository recently on IRC and
relations are excellent : I'm pretty sure we will find a good solution
for handling l10n on this package, as well as of course properly
maintain it.

As shadow is very close to d-i even though it is not strictly speaking
part of it, this is important for further releases.
