[Debconf-team] beta1 proceedings available

2006-04-20 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Hi!

I just uploaded the first beta version of the proceedings.

I still call it beta, since I still miss two promissed papers (the
OpenSolaris one and the Debian Debugging Debacle one), and haven't added
the cover and back (IIRC we used a sepperate file for those laste year
anyway, since we were printing them in colour on different paper).

It's available at
http://people.debian.org/~tolimar/debconf-6/proceedings/ and via svn
from svn.debian.org/debconf6-data/proceedings/.

If you would like to spend some time proofreading, now would be a good
point ;)

Stuff that needs to be done:
- proof read the credits; they were written by a lazy, tired german guy,
  who doesn't speak good english
- proof read all the other texts (especially "releasing in time - etch
in Decemb er 06", the author is german, too and asked for some non
en_DE speaking to do some proof reading)
- check typesetting (are tables and other stuff printed correctly?
  Nothing written into the border?)
- special characters (like ~ in URLs, $ and _ are also sometime
  problematic in LaTeX)
- references; while compiling LaTeX keeps on telling me something about
undefined references, which means somewhere in that document someone
tried to reference a section which isn't named... so somewhere you'll
find "Please see chapter" and then nothing, since the refernce is
  missing ;)

Stuff which still needs to be done before printing:
- change colours of URLs and jumpmarks to black
- add copyright and license Information
- add late submitted papers
- move unsubmitted papers to the BoF section
- Hmm... some small introducing words at the start would be fine... but
they are long enough as they are, so I may just leave them, as they
  are

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander

PS: I asked previously to not comitt to svn directly while I'm working
on it; I heardby revoke that, feel free to do so.

Nadeshda took at least pictures of it and gave me a list of available audio
sets.

Aehm, its not "only" for the video people. It's for the people sitting at home
for whom we want to try to give them better audio than at debconf5. (Which
was ok, but not as good as we would want it.)

It's not only that, they also have audio "desks" (aka mixers), which we would
like to use. We should definity use the audio system in the parlamentary
tower (to be able to use their speakers etc.) - in the smaller conferences
rooms for the workshops and BoFs built-in microphones might be sufficient,
though this really depends on the background noise as well.

For the big auditorium I would definitly suggest "professional" audio
equiqment.

Maulkin thought it was reasonable.

I agree with scraping it (because of the 24h problem) but I want to remark
that we will (need to) setup a cable link to the parlamentary tower for the
video team. There is even money in the budget for it :-)

Umh... I'm not sure if this will be possible. First of all, it's
almost a 300m shot - a single cable will not do, you will have to
repeat the signal at least once, and we cannot put our equipment in
the middle. Second, we cross one road and one area where it's not easy
to get to the roofs. Third, we didn't ask for permission, and we won't
have access to work in the tower until a day before Debianday IIRC. In
short: If you have a way to do this, we might get the needed
authorization... But it's quite messy. Isn't a dedicated wireless link
enough for your needs? We could set up two links between the hotel and
the tower, one for general traffic and one for video team. 54Mbps.

We might get an overflow of people for some (few) talks. It would be
an interesting solution if you could make a bidirectional live stream
from the tower to the hacklab, so we have a videoconference.

Greetings,

Yes, with the description you gave, you reminded me we actually asked
for it :)

Well, yes, but if they get low sound levels or something, they should
blame you video guys ;-)

Ok, then I shut up. And try to get a sponsor as well for this ;-)

Yes, I'm on it.

IMO, if people is really interested on attending the KSP, they will do
as much as possible they can to do it. I agree waiting for the people to
arrive would make the process finish very late. Anyway, it's also true
that going from Mexico City to Oaxtepec at 18:00 to arrive at 20:00, as
in the example, is madness, that cannot be done.

If doing it on Saturday 13rd is quite early and on Saturday 20th is
quite late, I would suggest leaving the thing as is, since Gunnar, do
you know of more persons that the ones you could count with one hand
that should wait to leave their offices at noon and then attend the KSP?
If somebody is willing to attend it, they will do it no matter what. The
next bigger KSP soon could be when and where? Next year in Scotland?

[Debconf-team] Something about sponsorship for Debconf6

2006-04-20 Thread Emfox Zhou
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hello, I was refused to be sponsored before(by a mail), but today I received
another mail that congratulates me for getting sponsored, is there anything
wrong?

And, If that's all right, I am sponsored now, according to the mail, "a
special procedure is developed to get you the money before DebConf", I wonder
how this procedure could be executed, as I'm a student, I cannot afford the
money for flight by my own.

Also, where could I got an offical certification (or similar materials), that
could be used to apply an exit visa (here in China) to Mexico?

Thanks in advance.
