Seems like get a taxi to UCT Upper Campus and then walk to the
relevant buildings (see below).

Building details are here:

I quote:

DebConf will take place in the Snape Building on Upper Campus, while
DebCamp will be in the UCT Pub and the Open Weekend will happen in
Menzies. The main accommodation will be in Fuller Hall on Upper
Campus, a short walk from the various venues.

There is a team working on an email to all attendees, that will tell you
what to do.

Everything I say here should be in that email.

Your taxi can take you straight to the entrance to the Fuller building
(the residence we are using for accommodation).
It's on Residence Road, UCT Upper Campus, Rondebosch

I am not sure where the front desk will be hanging out during DebCamp.
But from the 27th, it should be located in Menzies room 11A.
Menzies is on Engineering Mall.

That's not really accurate.

DebConf will be in Menzies, with some hacklabs in Snape. DebCamp will be
using those same hacklabs, as well as some in Fuller (probably).

I think the airport will give you 30 mins (50MiB) free WiFi, with email
/ SMS verification required.

I'd recommend the Woolworths at the airport.

[Debconf-discuss] ways to send money to self if any travel bursary reimbursements at end is done through cash (ZAR) .

2016-06-18 Thread shirish शिरीष
Hi all,

While I do not know how the travel bursary reimbursements will be done
at the end of the conference, either through cash (like last year) and
if I do not want to carry such a large amount as cash, can anybody
tell/share what options there are to send money to self or home
cheaply and legally ?

I am looking at western union but any other option which does direct
money transfer between the two countries ( South Africa and India) are
also welcome.

Banks are also supposed to be one option but there fees are on the
higher side vis-a-vis westerm Union/Paypal and there also seems to be
conditions as to how much you can send in one go.

Does it make sense to have a westerm union account for such a purpose ?

I do know that like last year, there is possibility for doing online
transfers after some time which is the last option if nothing of the
above works/doesn't make sense.

in the Fuller Hall (E4 on the map). The main accommodation will be in

https://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf16/Venue#Maps_and_Location

DebConf will take place in the Menzies Building on Upper Campus, in
block C4 on this map. The main accommodation is at Fuller Residence,
in block E4 on this map, about 150m from the conference venue.
