[Debconf-discuss] Last minute cancelation due to unexpected health problems

2009-07-22 Thread Olivier Berger
Hi.

I'm verry sorry I can't attend the Debconf, due to last minute
unexpected health problems for a close family member.

I hope it's not too late to cancel my room and lunches and any other
booked expenses.

Please tell me if I should give more details to someone.

Sorry again... I'll miss you, and you'll miss the lovely cheese I was
about to bring tonight ;)

Best regards,

Already got one passenger. We'd leave around 14:30 from the airport.
Anyone else?

I'm actually interested in tracking one of these down today; does
anyone know of a store around which would have them (and would someone
with more spanish knowledge than me be interested in helping me get
one?)

[Debconf-discuss] Friday 19:30, Madrid→Cace res, 1 seat

2009-07-22 Thread martin f krafft
I also have a seat available for travel from Madrid airport to
Cáceres on Friday night. We are landing at 19:05 and expect to meet
at the Hertz counter before 19:30. This means a long drive into the
night, but it's the best we could do.

If you want to travel along, drop me a line. First come, first
served. Sorry for the late notice.

We'd appreciate participation in costs of petrol and car up to your
own limit.

Cheers,

[Debconf-discuss] 31/07 9.25 train to Madrid full?

2009-07-22 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Hi,

I had given up on the Renfe website, and decided to buy my tickets in
Chamartin. Apparently the 9.25 return train to Madrid is full (at least
it was not possible to buy a ticket for it).

So I'm leaving on the 6.46 train, and plan to spend the day visiting
Madrid (my plane leaves at 20.something). If you want to join, just
tell.

You could try movistar (owned by Telefonica). I was in a movistar shop
in the morning and was after a SMS card but bought a mobile phone for 20
Euros to call my wife in Barcelona for 1 cent per minute. It was cheaper
to buy the mobile phone to make calls within Spain.

I can go with you. The shops open at 17:00 in the afternoon.

[Debconf-discuss] ISS greets DebConf

2009-07-22 Thread Thomas Bliesener
The (hopefully) cloudless Spanish sky offers good conditions for
nightly observations. In the next few days there are two nice passes by
of the International Space Station:

DateMag StartsAlt. Az. Max. Alt. Az. Ends Alt. Az.
23 Jul -3.1 23:13:28 10 NW23:16:22 62 NE23:17:15 38 E
25 Jul -3.2 22:27:42 10 NW22:30:38 66 NE22:33:07 13 ESE

A magnitud of -3.1 is very bright and can easily be observed by the
naked eye. There will be also a strong Iridium flare:

DateTime Mag Alt. Az.Satellite
25 Jul 00:32:53 -6 15° 42° (NE ) Iridium 84

And for those who go late to bed there will be even one with mag -7:
24 Jul 05:02:57 -7 26° 122° (ESE) Iridium 21

[Debconf-discuss] Volunteers needed to staff the front-desk

2009-07-22 Thread Gaudenz Steinlin
Hi

We need volunteers to staff the front-desk booth. The task is quite
easy: You just have to be there and greet and check-in the new people
arriving, answer questions of newcomers, sell food tickets and Debconf
wine, ... Nothing too complicated and in case you don't know the answer
to something, there is a nice little cheat-sheet in the wiki and you can
always ask Amaya.

I'm sure it's actually quite a lot of fun, because you will meet a lot
of people and you'll not be doing the shifts alone.

Please if you are able to help with this, if only for a single shift,
prefereably more, register yourself on the wiki page at:
http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf9/FrontDeskSchedule

Thanks for your help!

Someone did.

https://penta.debconf.org/penta/schedule/dc9/event/506.en.html

That's on Sunday night, starting at 22:00 in the upper talk-room.
Dinner supposedly runs from 21:30 until 22:30, so everyone
who thinks they should be there better eat fast.

This is supposed to be a pre-meeting to the event on Thursday:
https://penta.debconf.org/penta/schedule/dc9/event/425.en.html

I have not yet conceived an agenda or what I really want to do in
this pre-meeting. The reason I registered it is mostly because
I have not really had the time to think about vcs-pkg in months and
would like to get back up to speed before we have a BoF where
we actually plan to define a roadmap. Thus, I think this meeting is
more a discussion of the goals of vcs-pkg, while the meeting on
Thursday should be about a roadmap.

Thoughts?

Thanks to Anibal, we were able to track down a retailer of Yoigo sim
cards:

The Phone House Spain, SLU
C/ Pintores 1

927 227 752

[Unfortunatly, I can't get google maps to pull it up properly, but
it's near the old city.]

At the Tabacos shop at Barajas I was able to get a SIM card from Happy
Móvil that is carried by Orange, apparently. It's nice, but it has no
data (3G, Edge, or anything) support and my phone is stupid without it.

So, two things, where's that Movistar store? And, do people know if I
can get a SIM card with prepaid cards recharging that also has 3G/EDGE?

Also, if I'm able to get such a SIM card, I offer to trade the Happy
Móvil SIM card worth €10 (with still €3+ credit in it) for a cerveza
pint :-D

The YOIGO card I got for €20 does 3G and had €20 of credit on it.
Charges for use of 3G seem to stop after €1.20 each day (or less if I
only use it a very little). I saw a YOIGO advert on a phone shop in the
building at the end of Plaza Mayor, where the Caja Extremadura building
is, but I don't know if they sell them there.

So, that 'deadline' has now passed, and I drew lots (literally) to
determine pairs of players. The wiki page has been updated accordingly;
people who signed up should check the page to determine against whom
they should play.

The number of people who signed up is not a power of two, so there will
at several stages be people who may skip a round without facing an
opponent. For the first round, this is Stefano Zacchiroli; for the next
round(s), I will again draw lots to determine the lucky person.

Oh, and Nico Golde: prepare to bite the dust ;-}
