Re: Stus-List Rod rigging on a c&c 30 mkii
Maurice, the stem ball fittings rotate as they are tightened. They are basically threaded to a spacer piece which goes through the mast and allows them to move. I’m making the assumption that you still have the original rod and fittings. Stus-List hawsepipe
The top fell overboard for about the 10th time because the chain connecting the hawspipe cover is cheap :( I found a new one at a local parts salvage place and while taking the old one off and putting the new one on, I decided to fix the hole in the deck. The previous owner (back in 1973!) had drilled a 2-1/4" hole through the deck with no attempt to seal the balsa. Various epoxy and silicone schemes all failed over time because of the chain rubbing on the edges. I finally had enough ad got a short piece of 2" PVC pipe. I stuck it in the hole, sealed the below deck end with butyl, and then injected epoxy all around the pipe. After the epoxy dried I sanded it all flush and it worked great. I know have a permanently epoxy sealed hole and the chain can rub on the PVC for a long time without eating through it.
