Re: Stus-List Cabin heat
We had a ‘heat pail” that burned ethanol or methanol years ago. It did get hot, but burning hydrocarbons or alcohols inside a boat produces a ton of water vapor which will condense all over the boat and you will end up warm and damp and then cold and damp when you turn the thing off. Mike: I am not so sure I would trust them. years ago, I bought a Kirby 25 with VC 17...I wanted to put Micron CSC on the bottom but I did not want to remove the VC17...I will never remove antifouling paint again. I asked Interlux tech support if I could put the CSC over the VC 17."absolutely not was Interlux's answer.the CSC will simply peel off and provide no antifouling protection.you must remove the VC 17". I gave it a wet sanding with 320 grit paper and applied the Micron CSC over it..absolutely no problem for the 7 years we raced the boat. John Roy and Paul Gallant remarked how nice the bottom of the Kirby was..John even felt the bottom had been 'long sanded' at some point before I bought the boat. I painted the entire inside of the Kirby with Brightside..Interlux told me it would peel if I didn't prime first..no primer and one part Brightside worked finenever peeled. Maybe I just answered my own question..what possible harm could it do! Rob Abbott AZURA C&C 32 - 84 Halifax, N.S. Re: Stus-List Antifouling Paint
Bob Ablatives can generally be applied over hard paints. I have contacted Interlux support many times and have always been given this answer. Most recently I enquired if I could apply Micron 66 over Petit Vivid and was told that I could after a light sanding of the Vivid. Results were good as I expected. I have alos applied Ablatives over VC 17 and Micron CSC over VC Offshore. The reverse is however not true. No hard paints can be applied over ablatives. The Brightsides data sheet states that it can be applied directly over gelcoat. I also contacted tech support about Interdeck (same as Brightsides) and this was confirmed. Over raw fiberglass or epoxy it is recommended a primer be used. Such as when recoring a section of deck. I love Brightsides. Very easy to use, nice looking and relatively cheap. Stus-List Inflatable Cleaning
David: I had some barnacles on my hull this year.on the advice of a C&C lister, I used muriatic acid..diluted the acid (approx. 33% from the retailer) 1 part acid to 5 parts water (down to say 6%).put in a spray bottle and it pretty much dissolved the barnacles. Let the acid stand for about 10 minutes and rinsed with a hose..no damage to the antifouling paint. Rob Abbott AZURA C&C 32 - 84 Halifax, N.S. On 2015-11-18 1:55 PM, David via CnC-List wrote: OK... Stus-List Antifouling Paint
Mike said "Ablatives can generally be applied over hard paints." That's the way it turned out but that was not what Interlux tech support advised me. I bought the Micron CSC at the Binnacle...asked them the same questionthey advised to remove the VC 17. Difference experiences at different times, I guess. Would the inside of the Kirby have been 'gelcoat'? It would have already had some kind of paint on it from the Mirage factory but it was pretty grungy before the paint job. Stus-List Return skipper needed Bermuda to Annapolis
All, I am looking for someone to skipper The Office back from Bermuda around June 18. I have several qualified crew, but need to have a skipper with ocean/Great Lakes experience. Unfortunately, this is not a paid position and you would have to pay for your own transportation to Bermuda and from Annapolis. I may also have room for one or two more crew. Please contact me off list if interested.
