Re: Stus-List AH 4000 Questions

2014-07-02 Thread Stevan Plavsa via CnC-List
I've got one of those ... my engagement lever actually stopped working
entirely several days into a two week cruise last year. My problem was the
pin. There is a little metal pin that holds a cam in place .. if you take
it apart you will see what I mean. I think that pin is a huge liability,
mine just sheared .. broken, done. At the time all I had was a drill bit ..
I jammed it in there (thinking drill bits are made of hard metal) and
snapped it off. It works great now .. except i put it all together
backwards so now you push down on the lever to engage. It's less optimal
than the factory behaviour but it works.

John,

Next week I should be able to send the kit back. We replaced all of the
expired OTC stuff with fresh stuff, so it should be good for a couple
years. Thanks so much for contributing to the cause!

Stus-List C&C 40 Aft Cabin?

2014-07-02 Thread Stevan Plavsa via CnC-List
Hi All,

Still learning about the different models .. is there a difference between
the 40-2 and the 40AC? They look the same to me on paper, at least,
according to sailboatdata:

C&C 40-2
http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=2500

C&C 40 AC
http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=2501

I notice that many C&C 40-2s do not have the two opening ports forward of
the distinctive C&C fixed deadlights and it seems like a desirable feature
that some have. The one difference I can find is that the AC seems to have
a centerboard .. but I thought maybe it was optional on the 40-2.

Was there a cut-off year for the opening ports?
Was there any actual difference between the 40-2 and the AC?

These are all cored hulls I assume.

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Stus-List C&C 40 Aft Cabin?

2014-07-02 Thread Chuck S via CnC-List
I remember seeing ads for the aft cabin 40 after 1981. I like the engine access
from all four sides, but not the long ladder.
My 34R has engine access from all four sides and only 4 steps to the ladder.

Check out the 37/40 design from 1988/89 where Rob Ball incorporated a queen
size island berth in an aft cabin w aft head and shower. More room and more
speed. Just sayin.
