I was hoping to tap the collective wisdom for suggestions on conditioning matte
finish interior bulk heads, cabinets, etc. I am hoping for a "rub it on and
done" solution. It doesn't need to last forever as long as it doesn't take
forever.
I have been using Murphy's oil soap disposable cleaning wipes, which are great,
but are a bit too far on the cleanser end of the spectrum. I like the fact that
I can leave a pack under the sink and use them at will however. If there were
something similar but better, that would be great.

Thanks,
Kevin

Deks Olje ( http://www.deksolje.com/ ) . You can decide to use only the number
1 ( it is a saturation oil that can be immerged ), and if you want a
varnish-like finish you add number 2 .
It is an old Norwegian product that lasts ( already 15 years inside the cabin
). I did all the exterior last year ( Teak and ipe ) , will see how long it
last before needing a refresh.

He also has a very nice "How to" pictorial to guide you on re-bedding with
good common sense advice and clear pictures / explanations.

It's US $39.00 for 2 50' rolls. I thought that was reasonable and it is
much higher grade than what you'd buy in a RV store.

Danny,

Thanks. We’re a “working club” and the owner must be there for the
launch and on board as it goes in the water.

I had the idea to make the video the day before and just had to use the
“leaving space dock” music from 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture. A lousy
movie to be sure, but an epic soundtrack.

My wife cracked up too.

Good luck with your launch.

Stus-List Solar power

2014-05-19 Thread via CnC-List

Thanks to the list, I decided to stay with 2 AGM batteries (both Group 31) and
use one for starting. The complications of a dedicated 'starting/flooded'
battery
were more trouble than necessary for me and how I use the boat. Further, since
my Zantrex Plus 40 charger wants all the batteries to be the same, this was
a no-brainer.

However, as I will not charge the batteries with shore power when I am not on
board, I would like a very SIMPLE solution to
keeping these batteries topped off properly via a solar panel(s), that can be
easily disconnected and stored below when I am on the boat.

I am thinking of something like one or two flexible, light weight solar panels,
probably with some sort of controllers(s), to (probably) hook directly
to the batteries while at the dock via some sort of simple
electrical/mechanical disconnect.

Suggestions on size/power output/hook-up/etc. from the list would be very
helpful.

Re: Stus-List Solar power

2014-05-19 Thread Della Barba, Joe via CnC-List
I have a 20 watt solar panel and a Morningstar controller that have been doing
very well for me. When I am on my mooring they keep up with the telemetry radio
I use to keep an eye on things.
http://www.amazon.com/SunGuard-SG-4-Controller-Regulator-Morningstar/dp/B000O3O0W2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1400529683&sr=8-1&keywords=Morningstar+solar

http://www.amazon.com/HQRP-Mono-crystalline-Anodized-Aluminum-Coaster/dp/B002HT09TO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1400529797&sr=8-3&keywords=25+watt+solar+panel

I will likely be adding another panel for more power. Being anchored in one
spot for 2 weeks for summer sailing class my engine run time was cut by 2/3s
with just the one panel. It likely saved at least $10 worth of gas in 2 weeks :)

Suggestions on size/power output/hook-up/etc. from the list would be very
helpful.

Hi Gary,

Unlike some other posters I had a fine buying experience with this guy. I
just followed the link and purchased the stuff via Paypal, I cam in the
mail shortly thereafter.

I have already started using it re-bedding some deck hardware a few weeks
back and it was really nice to work with. No leaks either :-)

Please let me know id you need additional details.

Good luck with it.

We had a great practice sail on Saturday ahead of the season-opening
Wednesday race this week. 15 knots to tune the rig on several tacks upwind
and 8 gybes off the wind to remember what goes where. The new winches are
working out well (to replace the Barient 28's, which have been serviced and
now need a new home...).

Re: Stus-List The Season Has Finally Begun!

2014-05-19 Thread Della Barba, Joe via CnC-List
I have had the boat running for a while and moved from my old slip to my new
one, but my first trip out of the marina was Friday heading up the river to the
yacht club to be RC for a Comet/Laser race. Nothing like leaving at 2100 Friday
and hoping everything works. I got in at exactly midnight and then spent 15
minutes untangling the mooring pennant from the chain and getting algae all
over me and the foredeck. I really need a new system for the mooring that
doesn’t turn into a toxic waste experiment. I am on “special duty” at work the
first half of June and can’t go far from home, so there goes 2 weeks of sailing
right at the start of summer ☹

Hello all
A few years back I think I read a post from someone who claimed
that they found a place that sold very high quality Butyl rubber.
I have looked all over my records for the website that sold this stuff and I
can't locate it does anyone remember that information? I would like to get
some that isn't the regular stuff like you would get in RV places. High
quality stuff is what I want to buy anyone remember that conversation a few
years back. Thanks Gary Kolc "Liberty"

Re: Stus-List Solar power

2014-05-19 Thread Marek Dziedzic via CnC-List
I am using the flexible solar panel (PowerFilm 21 W, bought from Defender)
with the Morning star SunSaver Duo.

I cannot imagine anything simpler. I have the panel attached to the top of
the bimini and the cable attached to the controller. Controller attaches to
both batteries (where you can set them up as 50/50 or 90/10). You may need
an extra extension cable, depending how you route the wire to the
controller.

Last season, the solar kept my batteries charged all the time. I have no
shore power available.

If you have an Echo Charger or something like that, you don't need dual
battery controller, though.
