Maybe the fields aren't marked correctly. Perhaps try uploading a CVS from another Baofeng from someone on the list. The Windows Device Manager (you may need to open the Control Panel and search for that item) will give you a handy list of COM ports. Bring up Device Manager, note the COM ports listed, plug the cable in, refresh the DM display if needed, and you should see it, either under COM ports or as a change in the list of USB items. They are not compatible. So uploading a CHIRP Radio Images (*.img) file from a different radio using an older version of CHIRP that didn't protect for this could cause unwanted side effects. Some have been known to be; 1 the radio won't scan, 2 the radio won't receive unless the [MONI] button is pressed, 3 the radio won't TX. If this is the case, which I am waiting for a reply to find out, then there is a special method that can perform a full upload of a "compatible" image to correct the problem that was created by previously uploading an "incompatible" image. CHIRP now tries to protect from this but there is nothing preventing Baofeng from changing the memory layout in another place in the future. This is why I no longer recommend swapping images between Baofeng radios (even if the model and firmware versions are the same). The only safe way is to download from both radios to open a tab for each radios. Copy-and-paste the channels between tabs as needed and finally upload each tab back to the radio that created it. Re: [chirp_users] Programing Cable Drivers
Hi Deb, If you open device manager, and plug in your cable, and open up ports com and lpt and then unplug your cable, you will see it disappear, and you can plug it back in to note the com port number. This only works for Windows, and can be confusing if you aren't familiar with device-manager or have lots of ports. CHIRP-next has a function for this built in now. In the download box, choose the "Help Me" option in the port drop-down and it will guide you through this procedure from right inside chirp. Works on all platforms and will pre-select the port for you if it is able to determine the right one. I recommend people use (and suggest this procedure to newbies) instead of the device-manager one unless there's a specific reason otherwise. --Dan ___ chirp_users mailing list chirp_users@intrepid.danplanet.com http://intrepid.danplanet.com/mailman/listinfo/chirp_users This message was sent to arch...@mail-archive.com at arch...@mail-archive.com To unsubscribe, send an email to chirp_users-unsubscr...@intrepid.danplanet.com To report this email as off-topic, please email chirp_users-ow...@intrepid.danplanet.com Searchable archive: https://www.mail-archive.com/chirp_users@intrepid.danplanet.com
