[chirp_users] Drivers

2022-03-23 Thread David Barber
I just installed the most recent Chirp on a Windows 7 laptop. It will not
identify the cable that I have used for years on my other computer. I can't
find where I can download the drivers. I use Windows 7 for all my Ham Radio
computer needs. About 3 weeks ago my original dead.
Thanks for any help.

The miklor.com website has links for all of the major USB-to-Serial
chip vendors (Prolific, FTDI, Silicon Labs and WCH). In the case of
Prolific drivers they also have the older Prolific driver needed for
the PL2303XA (and now PL2303TA) chips.

[chirp_users] Duplex off with Baofeng uv-5r8w

2022-03-23 Thread PS

Hi

I a am trying to block TX in a frequency on two Baofeng UV-5R8W
radios  I have a UV-5R +plus that works as expected with duplex set to
off. The two UV-5R8W that display all 6's in the frequency and locks the
radios in the transmit mode unit powered down, upon restating it works
fine, unless I try to TX on the duplex off frequency again. All three
radios have BFB298 and 210223 firmware display. Chrip display HN5RV01 as
the firmware. I am using the radio model UV-5R on the UV-5R+plus and
using the BF-F8HP model for the UV-5R8W radios.

Thanks for any ides on how to get the Duplex off to function as a TX block.

The radio has to support the Duplex = "off" feature. It sounds like
your UV-5R8W might not. CHIRP disabled TX by not setting a TX
frequency in the radio. What happens when you program a channel with
no TX frequency using the OEM programming software?

2022-03-23 Thread Ken Hansen
I don't understand - I've read your description several times, and I can't
follow it.

Are you trying to transmit close to a band edge and the duplex function locks
the radio when the offset is outside the authorized band?

Duplex is a menu item, set per channel, you can set it to + positive, -
negative, or off (simplex).

Additionally, you can set the size of the offset in the menu.

Menu items can be changed either through the programming software or the
radio's "front panel"

[chirp_users] MacOS 12.3 question

2022-03-23 Thread Steve via chirp_users
Hi,

I have a MAC M1 chip laptop run in MacOS 12.3 which has removed python 2.7. I
am a new chirp user. I have performed the steps in the tips for macOS. When I
try to run chirp it displays an error that it can’t find a file for python 2.7.
Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks___

For clarification...

Duplex = (None) is simplex
Duplex = "off" is TX disabled (on radios that support it)

Re: [chirp_users] MacOS 12.3 question

2022-03-23 Thread Scott Lopez
Unfortunately right now there isn't. CHIRP is coded with Python 2, which
has been EOL'd for some time now, until development gets it migrated over
to python3 (which, while they are working on, has no ETA in sight) the only
solution is to not upgrade to Python 2. This affects more than just MacOS
12.3 as many Linux distributions drop support for Python 2 as well. It's a
shame that we are all affected.

Re: [chirp_users] MacOS 12.3 question

2022-03-23 Thread Steve via chirp_users
Hi,

With Dan’s advice, I was able to install python 2.7 on my MacBook macOS 12.3
and was able to run chirp. macOS tips page has been updated with that
information for MacOS 12.3.

Thanks,

Steve
