I guess you missed the beginning of this thread: I wanted to add gqview to
the menu, so I ran the KDE menu updater... and it broke leave - clicking
leave give me the submenu, bot lock screen does *nothing* at all. I'm trying
to restore it, rather than having to type my alias for ... I'm not at work
yet, and I've got 5.9 here, not 6.4, but it's kde's screenlocker. That works
fine; it's just the menu option hosed.

Strange indeed, menu editor obviously shouldn't do that. :(

the customizations should get saved to something under:
~/.config/menus/

You could try removing stuff from there (manually re-running 'kbuildsycoca4'
after manual changes) until Leave works again.

Hello Ken
Try this " site:danwalsh.livejournal.com" in your searches.
Also this is a good book

This is the best I can do as I don't understand. What message? Could you
post it? If its bind, did you check iptables?

[CentOS] SELinux Question

2013-07-22 Thread Ken Smith
Hi Guys, My google foo is failing me this afternoon. Just configuring a
new C6 install. I know there are SELinux alerts happening, eg: I know I
need to enable named to write to the local .jnl file as part of dynamic
DNS, but sealert -b is not listing any alerts. I can see raw audit
messages. Is there some daemon I have forgotten to start or install?

Thanks

[CentOS] HPN-SSH performance optimization?

2013-07-22 Thread Ljubomir Ljubojevic
Hi.
I wonder what is a current position on HPN-SSH patch for OpenSSH is?

I have seen a progress was made, so I was wondering if that patch is
safe enough and if anyone is building it?

Maybe separate package to accept connections to special port for local
network (without NFS/Samba)?

It is supposed to provide up to 20x more speed over ssh.
Homepage is here http://www.psc.edu/index.php/hpn-ssh

Also, I heard about some additions to Openssh so that it can transport
larger files without encryption? Was it added?

Google searches for that show issues on 2.6.3x kernels in many distros
(I see it in .31, .32, .33 kernels) including opensuse and ubuntu ...
they seem to be ignorable from what I am reading. It seems to be a sata
issue (with the nforce2 chipset) and not a graphics issue.

Make sure all your file systems are mountable.

[CentOS] How do I debug why Centos is asking for fonts to be installed?

2013-07-22 Thread Rock
Quite a few times a day, both the latest Pan & Firefox
available in standard CentOS repositories elicit what
(now) appears to be a CentOS request to install fonts,
e.g.: http://i39.tinypic.com/2i7qm2p.png

This latest message says:
Pan newsreader wants to install fonts
 - Thai
 - Cherokee

At first I had thought it was Pan and Firefox causing
these messages, but I was just told it's actually CentOS
which is making these requests.

Hence, I ask:
Q: How do I debug why these requests are being made?

And, more importantly:
Q: How do I prevent these messages from popping up?

[CentOS] CentOS 6.4 doesn't work with SAMSUNG MP0402H USB harddisk, but CentOS 5.6 does

I want to make a live USB from live CD.
CentOS 6.4 live CD doesn't work. Can not find root when initrd0 booting. It
appears initrd0 can not find the USB harddisk - SAMSUNG MP0402H.
But CentOS 5.6 live CD works fine.
What can I do?
Thanks.

How did you try to do it. I've found that livecd-iso-to-disk has worked
pretty well for me. (Provided by the livecd-tools packge.)

Actually, in most cases, even doing dd if=
of=/dev/ shoudl also work. (I haven't used that in
awhile though.)

[CentOS] 答复: CentOS 6.4 doesn't work with SAMSUNG MP0402H USB harddisk, but CentOS 5.6 does

2013-07-22 Thread Jiang Wen Dong
I'm using Fbinst and grub4dos.
Copy initrd0.img/osmin.img/vmlinuz0/squashfs.img to \liveos directory, and load
by grldr.
It appears kernel can not drive SAMSUNG MP0402H USB device, so it can not mount
root.

I can not find any information about SAMSUNG MP0402H by rdshell:
ls /device/disk/by-*
cat /proc/scsi/scsi

Apparently the program thinks that it needs those fonts.

Using gconf-editor, unset /apps/gnome-packagekit/enable_font_helper

If you don't see AVCs logged and suspect that SELinux is causing you
problems anyway, enable all logging:

semodule -BD

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SELinux/Troubleshooting

If you don't see AVCs in the log, then SELinux isn't denying access.

Normally if files are created in /var/named/dynamic, then the SELinux
context will already be set correctly.

For some reason auditd wasn't running or enabled. I'm now seeing the
messages I needed in /var/log/messages. I'm running bind chrooted and
various other tweeks mean I need to set SELinux accordingly.
