Making gnu-ghostscript-8.71.1 fails ion HP-UX11, macro expansion too big

2011-04-20 Thread Andersson Roland
Hi there!
I am trying to get ghostscript running on HP-UX 11.00
I got source from Internet, gnu-ghostscript-8.71.1, zlib-1.2.5, libpng-1.5.2
and jpegsrc.v8c
All but gnu-ghostscript were OK to build libs from.
When running command make in gnu-ghostscript, makefile = base/unixansi.mak
it will not do anything but complaining:
"Make macro expansion too big. Stop."
Does this mean that it cannot be built on this platform?
or is there a workaround for this fatal limitation?
Hoping for an answer.
/r

RE: Making gnu-ghostscript-8.71.1 fails ion HP-UX11, macro expansion too big

Hello,
And Thank You for the answer!
About make:

When running command make in gnu-ghostscript, makefile = base/
unixansi.mak
it will not do anything but complaining:
"Make macro expansion too big. Stop."

Seems that there is something in that makefile exceeding the capabilities
of
your make program. Is the error message identifying a concrete line in the
makefile?
There is nothing else but the short message from make,
No line numbers or anything that could have helped in solving this.
Tried configure -with-drivers FILES but the same message.

 I can't test it here since I don't have access to a hp-ux machine.
What make are you using?
The executable file in HP-UX is from 1997 !
I tried to build ghostscript in a newer HP-computer(ia64 2005):
It did not work: the makefile ./base/jpeg.mak
is trying to compile jpeg/jdphuff.c
It does NOT exist in jpeg directory (version= jpegsrc.v8c)
The only "huff" files in jpeg dir are jchuff.c and jdhuff.c
Seems too difficult for me to know what to do now.
Is it a version mismatch between ghostscript8.71 and jpegsrc.v8c?
Do you have any suggestions how to proceed?

or is there a workaround for this fatal limitation?

You could try to install GNU make and to use it to build ghostscript.
I will try this if I can find a prebuilt GNU make for HP-UX.
Otherwise I will presumebly having the same "make problem" again.
But this will probably not solve the jdphuff.c file mismatch.
Still hoping for ghostscript on HP-UX
Sincerly
