Yeap, here in PR it means “Party Time” we also use the term “Jangueo” an
anglicisim from the word Hang or “To hang around”

We have too many anglicism, we can define our language as Spanglish…

[AFMUG] OT your daily vocab lesson

2020-06-27 Thread chuck
A newspaper article had a politician stating that something was “beyond the
pale”. I understood the phrase from just growing up here and hearing it now
and then – but then I got to thinking about it. Did I really understand the
phrase? What is a pale? Does something make you pale if it is beyond the
pale? Pail? Hum...

>From the interwebs:
From pale (“jurisdiction of an authority, territory under an authority's
jurisdiction”), suggesting that anything outside the authority's jurisdiction
was uncivilized. The phrase was in use by the mid-17th century, and may be a
reference to the general sense of boundary, but is often understood to refer
specifically to the English Pale in Ireland. In the nominally English territory
of Ireland, only the Pale fell genuinely under the authority of English law,
hence the terms within the pale and beyond the pale. The boundary of the
Ashdown Forest (a royal hunting forest) was also known as the Pale, consisting
of a paled fence and a ditch inside, to allow deer to jump in, but not back out.

Now, what about impale? And if you impale an impala in the pale did you break
a law?--

[AFMUG] OT Beer in Texas

2020-06-27 Thread Warren King
@ Jaime, Lewis, & Tushar (and anyone else in TX):

Back story - I spent nearly two weeks in the Austin/San Antonio area this past
JAN/FEB pursuing your renowned live music; live music capital of the world
indeed!

Why is the beer available in restaurants and bars predominately, nearly
exclusively in long neck bottles? Very little draft, very little in cans.

Of course I’m from Oregon, and we have more draft, craft beers than TX has oil
wells.

Everybody likes their beer cold. Most places are too cheap to buy enough
freezer space to keep glasses called. If you pour cold draft beer in a warm
glass, it doesn't take long to heat up. As result most people just sell the
bottles.

Re: [AFMUG] OT Beer in Texas

2020-06-27 Thread Warren King
Thanks for the enlightenment guys!

Desire to consume beer cold understood; Texas does have occasional warm days,

Out of curiosity, I’ll begin keeping track here how many glasses arrive frozen,
refrigerated, or room temp.

Cheers!

Doing an outside loop over the ocean in a sailplane in Hawaii is probably the
