Re: [AFMUG] Packet Flux Temperature Controller

2019-11-14 Thread Forrest Christian (List Account)
The intelligent temp control is mechanically identical to the relay module,
but has two resistive temperature inputs and 4 normaly open relay outputs.
I.E. On the 12 pin input, the first 4 pins are used (2 each) for the
temperature sensors, and the remaining 8 pins are used (2 each) for the
relays.

The sensors are about 18" long or so, but can be extended without a lot of
effort.

Works fine down to very cold. Not sure what the lower range is right off
the top of my head but it's well below 0F.

As an aside, the Base 3 will have it's switch closure input repurposed to a
resistance input, with an option for connecting a similar temperature
sensor. So you'll have the base 3 internal sensor, and then can choose to
use the resistance input as a temperature input instead.

I've checked and Debbie has replacing that picture with a temperature
controller on her todo list. We're not sure when it got misuploaded but
we discovered it a couple months back.

UI is at a good point to short (Buy Puts) but If you are risk averse you
might want to wait a bit to see if there is a secondary squeeze. It
squeezed up hard after the last earnings and should drop down to 130-150 in
the next few months.

How big are the thermocouples? My old setup they were basically the
size of a #12 wire. I just drilled a little hole in the metal duct and
pushed the sensor through. Are these similar?

[AFMUG] Greta

2019-11-14 Thread chuck
Every time Greta goes somewhere, I am going to calculate the distance,
multiply it by 2691 BTU per mile.

Divide that by 139000 and we have gallons of diesel.

So say she is boating from somewhere in South America to Spain.
Perhaps 3000 miles of airline flight she avoided.
3000*2691/139000=58 gallons.

So I will get a kick starter campaign to donate 58 gallons of fuel to light
the Greta memorial torch so everyone can see when she is on the move.

[AFMUG] Channelmaster Smartenna+

2019-11-14 Thread Ken Hohhof
Sounds like the cnMedusa of indoor TV antennas. Anybody used one? Are they
any good? Or just a gimmick.

I got an email about a Black Friday deal $10 open box with free shipping on
Nov. 29 only. Gotta wonder how many open box units they have, maybe just
one and they hope you'll buy one at regular price. If they really have a
ton of open box units, and they're returns, that would indicate they might
not be a deal even at $10. I also wonder how much beam steering you can do
at UHF frequencies with a small panel. Most of those indoor TV antennas are
omnis.

If you want to do just a single workspace (ie just WISPs/AFMUG) you can use
a browser. For multiple workspaces (in my case AFMUG + Imagine Networks +
powercode community) you have to have the app (Windows/MAC/android/iphone).

I've ran it for a few months now and it seems perfectly fine. Chrome
easily is my biggest issue with using every bit of memory that I have
available. Moderate...idk...never have a problem in either of mine.

2019-11-14 Thread Bill Prince

Indoor antennas are a real crapshoot. Where we are, they are all
very limited due to walls and such.
Several years ago we got a Winegard Flatwave (https://winegard.com/products/hdtv-digital-antennas/vhf-uhf-antennas/flatwave/flatwave-air).
It works great as almost all the stations we can receive are
within about a 3-5 degree azimuth. Last time I did a channel scan,
we picked up 60 or so channels. It's also very compact (about 1
foot square, and maybe 3 inches thick).

We need someone to do a tear down. Problem is, how does the antenna know which
channel you want to watch. We don’t all have the luxury of all the channels
coming from only one direction. At most, it is taking some kind of aggregate
RF level and perhaps tweaking some elements to maximize that number.

Nov. 29 only. Gotta wonder how many open box units they have, maybe just one
and they hope you’ll buy one at regular price. If they really have a ton of
open box units, and they’re returns, that would indicate they might not be a
deal even at $10. I also wonder how much beam steering you can do at UHF
frequencies with a small panel. Most of those indoor TV antennas are omnis.

Is that on their website or Amazon?

It's sneaky, but Discord is much, much larger than slack. In April it was about
250M discord users to 10M slack users. There are features in slack that make
for a pretty good collaboration for working groups, but discord does a pretty
good job at what it does.

I feel bad for her, autistic, child tool of adults agenda, trained to use a

to smack the adults puppeting her around and let her finish being a kid before
she gets jaded by her politics

Re: [AFMUG] Greta

2019-11-14 Thread Ken Hohhof
When I was a kid, many kids were “nerdy”, “shy”, or “introverted”. Now they
would be “autistic” or “on the autism spectrum” or have “ASD”. As anything
with “spectrum” in the name, it can vary from minor to severe. I think Gino is
right, mental illness is incorrect terminology.

Some employers with boring or repetitive jobs that nonetheless must be done
correctly with attention to detail have found that such people are ideal
employees. Like watchmakers that found out they didn’t want people with 20/20
vison, they wanted nearsighted people.

The opposite situation is probably all the kids that are diagnosed with ADHD
because teachers don’t want to deal with a kid who won’t sit quietly and shut
up, and the helicopter parents take them to the doctor and put them on Ritalin.
Because big Pharma has a solution for every problem. And class size is too
big for teachers to deal with non conforming kids, and who wants to try old
fashioned solutions like sending the kids out for recess to burn off energy.

Strange stuff, like have you noticed how many successful, creative, or big
picture people are dyslexic?

Re: [AFMUG] Greta

2019-11-14 Thread Richard Strittmatter
As a parent of an “autistic” kid ( aspergers ), I never let the teachers treat
him any different.

The only reason he has a “diagnosis” is that the teachers kept insisting
something must be wrong because he didn’t do what they wanted.
I don’t believe in treating him different, and giving him “special” education
requirements. I have always told them no, and he has excelled in classes
related to reading, and history.
Granted he sucks at math, but hey, it is what it is.

This medical/education treatment of them as “special” is the reason for so many
of them NOT succeeding, IMHO..

The real world isn’t nice, and handicapping them early by making them believe
they can’t do it is wrong.

BTW, he wants to be an English teacher… lol
