Re: Problems with running TSM and Netbackup on the same machine

2002-08-12 Thread Zig Zag

I have a few Clients HP/NT using both NB and TSM, the
only problem would be(or what I have seen is) running
the backups at the same time.(while using the same NIC
makes it even more wonderful).

I would suggest running the backups at different
times.

Re: TDP for Oracle Expiration

2002-08-21 Thread Zig Zag

Chris,

I have a DB2 client that wants everything kept for 30
days and nothing more.
Here is my copygroup settings/mgmt class assignments.
PolicyPolicyMgmt Copy Versions
Versions Retain Retain
DomainSet Name Class Group Data
DataExtraOnly
NameName NameExists
Deleted Versions Version
- - - -
  ---
UDBDOMACTIVEDB2PROD STANDARD 1
 0 30 0

The reason I have this set up this way is due to the
File naming convention they use. file.dateandtime

Look at the file naming convention used and determine
what is right for you..

Re: Restore filesystem to directory on AIX-client

2002-08-21 Thread Zig Zag

Don't know if this was mentioned.

You can add additional stanzas in your dsm.sys file to
connect to the server as the (retired) server .
You will need to reset the password for the
clientnode, and admin account for that node at the
Server.
at the command line ;
dsmc -se=retirednodename
give the password
then you can "set access" to give the inusetoday node
access to the retired node's data.
The neat thing is you can break it down to the file
owner and or the filesystem.

Do a dsmc help, and look for "SET ACCESS" in the menu,
it varies thru version levels/releases.

Re: DB2 Backup using different node names(MORE)

2002-11-18 Thread Zig Zag
Ed - Bill,

There is a way to do this. We have a 32way 690, only 18
partitions/nodes/clients(whatever ya wanna call em, I call virtnodez) backing up
DB2.
The 18 p/n/c have the DB2 database spread across multiple sharks adding up to about
2TB for this DB, each p/n/c has a partition at about 180GB or so.
The backups are initiated thru maestro 10 seconds apart. We Linked the
/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/*/ba/bin/dsm.opt file to a file called /tmp/dsm.opt. We gave
the DB2 instance/user "sudo" access to only modify this file when the backup
starts, the script changes the /tmp/dsm.opt to the "instance" or "desired name".
Since it is linked when the backup starts it assumes that "desired" name. We do
this on a 12TB DB2 DB as well with 25 p/n/c. It works quite well. We had to add in
another script to copy the original dsm.opt file to the /tmp/dsm.opt file, cause
/tmp filled up and someone removed the file, it now checks for the file, if it
isn't there it copies it.
You need to have the "desired" names in your dsm.sys file also.
I would give you the script, but I know it wouldn't work in your environment. Too
many oddities here. :)

If you didn't get lost in this email, GOOD LUCK!
PS- I am trying to get them to do this(NODEXXDB2LOGXX) for the archive logging that
happens periodically. Am I crazy?

Re: slow DB2 backups

2002-11-18 Thread Zig Zag
Muthyam,

Lotza things you could look at:

DSM.SYS file check the parmaters, do they make sense or jive with your OS settings?

Check the archives for TSM to OS tuning, I've caught a lot of good articles there!

Is compression on? Lotz of work on the client to do that.
What is your backbone? GBit/Css/En ?

Is your API current? What DB2 level are you at, there was a bug back a year or so
ago with DB2 not working correctly with TSM.

Is your TSM server a utility server like ours running 60+ billion other
applications, gasping for memory begging to turn itself off?

We had a slowness or "it won't do" performance problem. We took 3 hours off our
backups changing mgmt class to go to tape. Also running 1/2 on SP switch and 1/2 on
GBit.(Switch card was getting hammered)

I get about 25 Sessions/Clients done in 15-16 hours for 12TB. 12 Fcal Tape
drives(3590). Client wants it done in 8.

All I want for xmas is a NEW TSM server. :)

I need to assign categories or reserve them in the library, for multiple servers.
I don't want anoter server to grab a "live" tape on another server and
mount/overwrite it.. I am almost there, i just reserved 190 categories, not what I
intended to do.. forgot to take the geritol 2day.

Re: Anyone remember how to assign category # using "mtlib" ?

2002-11-26 Thread Zig Zag
Thanks All!

I figured it out..

mtlib -l /dev/lmcp0 -q -r520 -hbuffy -#1

If you do a mtlib -l /dev/lmcp0 -qR <-- That displays all categories reserved for
your lib. I was trying to add additional categories for "reservation" so that other
servers could not and would not access the others respected media.
