Re: Can anyone verify this ......

You could restore TSM DB to single DLT environment,I have done
this. After DB restored, you need to redefine Library, drive and path
in the current environment, ( Restore DB only remembers the environment
that DB was backup to, you need to do the brain wash).

Try it.

Hi,

TSM 4.1.4 on AIX 4.3.3

Can anyone verify this for me:
If I create a db backup tape in a multi-tapes DLT library from one system,
can I
eject this tape and try to restore the database into another system which
has
only a single DLT drive attached to it?
I was told that I could only do the restore using the same multi-tape DLT
library. I am not sure if this is true because I have never gone through
this step.

Thank you.

In our environment we have lots of Management Class defined back 5 or 6

the questions are

1. How can I find out what are the filespace that has "Keep-forever"

2. Can I expire these objects only?

3. In NetBackup, I can modify retention on each individual backup set,
and modify it to any length that user required. Is this possible in TSM.

Tony,

If you run deleted volshitory ( "Del volhistory t=dbbackup

of the DB tapes physically, The tape labels can be re-used if they are
older than the date that you specified in todate option.
Otherwise, system will tell you the tape label is busy, you cannot do
the backup using this label. Look the help text on Del Volhistory, and

Hi,
I need some urgent help on restoring an SQL DB. I took a TDP SQL backup
tape offsite and am restoring it from a different tape drive offsite (on
a different TSM server, but the TSM server has the same TSM DB as the
original one).

The problem I am having is when I restore the DB from the SQL client
GUI, it keeps asking for the onsite tapes. I want to restore from the
offsite copy, not the onsite copy. I have tried to make the onsite
copies "inaccessible" so that it would ask for the offsite tape to
restore from. But instead it just comes up with this error message:
"ANR1420W Read access denied for volume BS0071L1 - volume
   access mode = "unavailable".

I am running Tiv 5.1 on Win2K. I would really appreciate any help..

Thanks

regards,
Sona

Re: Compression with TDP for Domino

I have client also using TDP for Domino, The best rate that I can have on
XL tape of 3570 tapes is 1 to 1.3 compression rate. however, the same
client also has ORACLE database, the data of Oracle can have 1 to 4
ocmpression rate. It is not how the compression does, It is the nature
of data. The data of Notes DB cannot be compressed. (There is no white
space or repeating patterns that compression can take advantage of,
therefore, it does not show very good result)

Re: Scheduler Question

You have to do two schedules, one for weekdays, one for Saturday only,
I don't think there is way within TSM you can do in one job. Otherwise,
you have to schedule outside the TSM, using AT on NT or win2k, Crontab
on AIX to handle the schedule.

Image backup cannot be perform on system volume, like c:
to use image backup, you must install the image agent for win2k
(included in client program)
then start its service up, reboot, then you can perform image backup
manual or in schedule.
To rebuild your crash win2k, you have to build a new OS with tsm client,
then restore image (just like d:),
files of system volume, and system object.

There is no TDP for sure, and the AIX server was just upgraded from 4.2.1

over 5 hours. And this backup is not scheduled by TSM schedule, it is
controlled by MAESTRO (a Tivoli schedule tool).

I am thinking there maybe same paraemeters that require to be adjusted to
speed up the backup to a reasonable time window.

RE. directory recovery question

2001-10-24 Thread Rosa Leung/Toronto/IBM

One of our team memeber is questioning

Why the time stamp of a restored directory from TSM/ADSM is showing
current time not the original time?
There are other Backup/recovery tools which showing the original time.
Such as Archserv...etc.

Is there an option that we can turn on/off to have original time stamp for
verification?

Thanks.

Re: TSM 4.2.x on AIX 4.3.3

2001-10-25 Thread Rosa Leung/Toronto/IBM

I believe, the client code of TSM is the highest at the current time. The
lastest patch (released @ Sept. 2001) is applied. and AIX is just upgraded
to 4.3.3.

And the team is working on install SQL-Backtrack rather than TDP, I hope,
this SQL_Backtrack can help the backup performance.

I am seeing patch levels higher than what is available on the FTP site.
How
are you getting them?

I had a similar performance problem.

We upgrade from adsm 3.1 to TSM 4.1 and from backint 2.3 to TDP for R/3
v3.2.0.4.

We saw a performance improvement when we installed the latest version of
TDP for oracle released last week (TDP for R/3 v3.2.0.6)

If you are using TDP for R/3 you might want to go to the latest level.

I would bet that the Network configuration changed during this install or
something else is causing this problem.

Check to see if your full backup failed. You can not do an incremental
backup of the exchange information store with out a full backup.
I had the same problem with Exchange 5.5 & TDP 2.2...

Hope this helps.

Hi, you should have detail list on every client box, if you backup by tsm
schedule, the result should be kept by dsmsched.log, If you run manualy,
then you should cast the result in a file, e.g. ( dsmc i > c:
\temp\sched.log).
