missing dsmlicense

2016-04-06 Thread Rhodes, Richard L.
Hello,

We did a new install of TSM 7.1.4 just to check it out.
(ok, we screwed up a upgrade on a test instance and decided to do a new/clean
install.)

After doing this install, it comes up with these messages:

03/17/16 08:27:06 ANR9649I An EVALUATION LICENSE for IBM System Storage
Archive Manager will expire on 04/15/16. (PROCESS: 6)

When you try and run reg lic, it throws this:

ANR9613W Error loading /opt/tivoli/tsm/server/bin/dsmlicense for Licensing
function.

That file does NOT exist. It DOES exist on our existing TSM 6.4 systems.

IBM support thinks we have a mixed 64bit(dsmserv)/32bit(dsmlicense) problem,
but the file simply does not exist.

Q) Where do you get the dsmlicense file for v7.1.4?

Thanks

Rick

Hi Richard,

The license can be installed from the 7.1.3 server package, available on
Passport Advantage.

Hello Rick,

Last time I checked Passport Advantage, I only had 7.1.3 available for
download and the license file from 7.1.3 works fine in 7.1.4 and 7.1.5. If
you check your 7.1.3 files, you'll find the license there.

Can anyone from IBM tell me why 7.1.4 or 7.1.5 is not available on the
Passport site?

FW: missing dsmlicense

2016-04-06 Thread Rhodes, Richard L.
Trying to remember things is getting harder and harder . . . .

I agree, on Passport Advantage there is no 7.1.4 or 7.1.5 for AIX.
(There IS a 7.1.4 server for Linux and S390.)

So, where did I get AIX 7.1.4 . . . Looks like from Fix Central.
AIX 7.1.4 and 7.1.5 are available on Fix Central.
(Why don't I remember downloading from there . . . . )

We did a new install from the Fix Central 7.1.4 which
doesn't include the license files. The 7.1.3 from
Passport Advantage DOES include the license files
which we've now installed.

I guess this makes sense.

I am getting this error on three different TSM for VE VBS servers today.
Waiting 60 minutes for each VM is causing the schedule to run into the next
days schedule (the job runs for over 24 hours). I have to stop and restart
the service to snap it out of this mode and hope the next backup runs OK.

I second this question. So the answer we got from our storage software sales
team is to download 7.1.3, extract the license file. Then, download the
version you want to want to use, extract and install that, then copy the file
over. Seems like way more work than it should be. Do we only get new license
files included once a year?

Been dealing with this type of issue on the various TDP software packages for

version/release/level/sub-level, and so we would often have to install older
versions of the TDP software then upgrade to the version we wanted OR extract
the license file from the old installer and apply it post-new install.

Now that IBM has discarded the version/release/level/sub-level model, I only
expect this incongruency to only get worse. Until, of course, it gets better

2016-04-06 Thread Andrew Raibeck
Hi all,

The IBM Spectrum Protect server package is updated with a new license when
the code is "re-based", i..e, that new level is being established as a new
base level of the software (not necessarily an x.x.0.0 level). It is the
re-based server packages that are put on Passport Advantage. 7.1.3.0 was
the most recent re-base of the server.

Best regards,

Andy

Re: missing dsmlicense

2016-04-06 Thread Remco Post
What I’ve been doing for some time is:

1- extract both 7.1.3 and 7.1.4 each in it’s own directory of course
2- install only the license from 7.1.3
3- install only the server from 7.1.4

this works perfectly. Yes it requires some diskspace and copying of software
you’ll never install, but that’s it.

Re: missing dsmlicense

2016-04-06 Thread Alford, Ben
Andi,
It seems it would make this easier for the customers if IBM included the
license with the newer levels (which are recommended for download), so that
IBM's base level issue becomes irrelevant. It would simplify this for our
users for sure!

Hi all,

The IBM Spectrum Protect server package is updated with a new license when the
code is "re-based", i..e, that new level is being established as a new base
level of the software (not necessarily an x.x.0.0 level). It is the re-based
server packages that are put on Passport Advantage. 7.1.3.0 was the most recent
re-base of the server.

Best regards,

Andy

Re: missing dsmlicense

2016-04-06 Thread Maurice van 't Loo
Hello Ben,

The license files are only included in the "protected area" of Passport
Advantage.
The "open" FTP area contains software without the licenses. Except for the
BA client.

@Andy,
It would help a lot if -only- the license pack was available at Passport
Advantage.
Now we need to download over 2GB of software for only a few kB's code.
Especially if you have a slow connection to the customers network, you have
double pain in case of installs.

Regards,
Maurice van 't Loo
