change websess timeout

2008-06-06 Thread Pavel Sitnikov
In old versions of TSM we have this command "webauthtimeout" for
websessions on ISC.
Now we use ISC 6.0.1.1 and Administration Center 5.5.0.0, TSM 5.5
I can't find appropriate command for this action in current version.
Please help change timeout for websessions in ISC!!!

Re: change websess timeout

2008-06-06 Thread Sandeep Jain

HI,

Do following steps

C:\Program Files\IBM\ISC\Tivoli\dsm\bin>supportUtil.bat

Administration Center Support Utility - Main Menu

==

1. Turn all tracing on

2. Turn all tracing off

3. Turn a single trace class on

4. Update the maximum memory size Administration Center can use

5. Update the Administration Center session timeout setting

6. Collect trace files, logs and system information to send to

support

7. View the log file for this utility

9. Exit

Enter Selection:

Session Time-out Setting

The session time out is the amount of idle time that the server waits before
forcing the administrator to login again. The default is 30 minutes.

This is the replacement to SET WEBTIMEOUT on the old interface.

Iam using TSM V5.4.I want to set Backup Copy group policy with the below
conditions.

Policy Domain Name POL_DOM

Policy Set Name ACTIVE

Mgmt Class Name STANDARD

Copy Group Name STANDARD

Versions Data Exists 3

Versions Data Deleted 1

Retain Extra Versions 120

Retain Only Version 30

I have a query that if a file is backed up only once and never modified,
still on the Client file system, when will that file expire according to the
policy which I have configured as the above.

That's the definition of the Active version of a file, which stays in
TSM storage indefinitely. See the Admin Guide manual.

Re: Tapes appear not present in library, but are physically in the library ????

2008-06-06 Thread Joni Moyer
Hi Anil,

No, there were no checkouts being done against this tape or any of the
others that I have seen experience this error. I have narrowed it down to
6 tape drives within the library, most of which are happening on 3. As
you see below the tape is mounted/dismounted ok and then several hrs.
later it is requested to be mounted again and it says it's not present in
the library when in fact it is. I have been looking at 25 tapes for this
past week which have experienced this issue and it is all the same. The
tape is physically in the library (I have checked through ACSLS which is
the software that controls the SUN SL8500) and we also did an audit of the
library at the beginning of the week to resolve this issue, but that
doesn't appear to have helped. I'm having the vendor of the tape drives
check out the 6 drives to see if it is a hardware issue with the drives or
a robot in the library or something... but I can't pinpoint what is
causing this issue yet.

Thanks!

Re: Best practice for Policy Domains

2008-06-06 Thread Wanda Prather
I think "best practice" is whatever gives you the most control and
consistent results, and it will vary depending on your site conditions.

It is extremely difficult to figure out after the fact (say 2 years from
now), what data is bound to what management classes, if you have a lot of
them, and if you don't have direct access to the clients.

I have customers where the TSM admins have direct access to the clients,
there are a small number of clients, and using a management class to control
retention works just fine.

I have another customer where the number of management classes has turned
into a nightmare. Nobody knows exactly which of the 180 clients (split
across 8 subsidiary departments) are currently using which management
classes. My recommendation was to divide the clients into more domains,
where the default mgmt class would control retention and the target
stgpool. That way it will be more transparently obvious how the clients are
being managed, and harder for Junior TSM admins to do it wrong. For that
site, more domains is going to work better.

YMMV.

Okay I can see how that would help keep tabs on whats going where.

Though it does seem odd that you would need more than a handful of retentions
especially defaults.

Our general rule here is each node gets its own policy domain, that way I

YMMV.

Re: Tapes appear not present in library, but are physically in the library ????

2008-06-06 Thread Kelly Lipp
Try auditing the library with the following three commands:

Audit library libname checklabel=barcode
Checkin libvol libname search=yes checklabel=barcode status=scratch
Checkin libvol libname search=yes checklabel=barcode status=private

These three commands will rationalize the library inventory and check in
any volumes that aren't already checked it (which seems to be your
problem).

All of that said, I'm not familiar with Gresham so don't know if there
are any gotchas.

2008-06-06 Thread Gerald Michalak
The first thing I would check is that the tapes are not still in the drives
via ACSLS command 'q dr all' and 'q vol '.

The 'q vol' will give you the status and location of the volume.

When you say you ran an audit, was it an ACSLS audit or a TSM audit?

We've had problems where the drive never actually ejected the tape.

Thanks!

Re: Tapes appear not present in library, but are physically in the library ????

2008-06-06 Thread Joni Moyer
Hi Gerald,

The tapes are in slots within the library and are not currently in drives.
We ran an ACSLS audit to clean up any discrepancies. I've also found
some more interesting information. It looks like at 2:02 AM this tape
dismounted from the drive. Then at 2:30AM a request came in to mount the
same tape and from the ACSLS logs it shows that it mounted T03735 in drive
0,2,1,7 and dismounted it not even a minute later, but TSM reported the
ANR8313E message that it was not present in the library. I then had our
operators eject the tape and re-enter it just in case there were still any
issues. At this point I don't really know where the problem lies. I
would assume it's not the library as it did mount the tape when requested.
I think I'm going to open a ticket with IBM to see what they say as I do
not see any definitive answers within the logs.

If anyone can think of anything just let me know. Thanks!

Re: Tapes appear not present in library, but are physically in the library

The first thing I would check is that the tapes are not still in the
drives
via ACSLS command 'q dr all' and 'q vol '.

The 'q vol' will give you the status and location of the volume.

When you say you ran an audit, was it an ACSLS audit or a TSM audit?

We've had problems where the drive never actually ejected the tape.

2008-06-06 Thread Support - US
Joni,
Are you using any sort of volume access control on ACSLS?
Since you haven't attempted to remove the volumes from the
library, the next most common cause would be that access
to the volumes has been denied to EDT by ACSLS. It's also
possible that there's something else going on, but I would need
to see the elm.conf file, EDT diagnostic log and TSM activity
log for today to determine what errors EDT is getting back from
ACSLS when we request the volume.

If you wish you can email the files to us at support AT
greshamstorage DOT com, and I'll take a look at them.

Thanks!
