Errors on volumes
Hi, I'm seeing the following messages on the two volumes of my disk storage pool. The errors are reported during a migration operation. 10/25/2004 09:14:31 ANR8555E An error (1167) occurred during a read operation from disk Q:\DISKTO3590A.DSM. 10/25/2004 09:14:31 ANRD dsrtrv.c(542): ThreadId<43> Error on volume Q:\DISKTO3590A.DSM: execRc=-1, summaryRc=0. 10/25/2004 09:14:31 ANRD dsrtrv.c(553): ThreadId<43> --> Volume Q:\DISKTO3590A.DSM, Starting Logical Block 1036447, Blocks in Range 64. I had the same errors last week, so I deleted the volumes and redefined them from scratch. Anyone encountered the same errors and if yes, what was the cause and solution ? Question about TDP for SQL
Hello all! I want make full + diff + log backup of SQL databases from 1 node. I think , for this I must define 3 schedules with needed specifications. I can associate these schedules with node or I must define on TSM 3 nodes and associate 1 schedule with 1 node? How realize this backup strategy correctly? WBR, Sergey
Re: Question about TDP for SQL
Sergey, One (1) TSM node with three (3) schedules is how you should set this up. I will be upgrading my TSM Server from 5.1.63 to 5.2.3. Other than making sure I have a full backup of my database, is there anything else I should be aware of before upgrading? My server runs AIX 5.2 ML4 in a 32bit environment. Thanks, Chris.

How to define an adic FastStor LTO Ultrium 1 with a 7 slot autoloader under ITSM 5.2.2.5
Hi Listers, I've got an "adic FastStor LTO Ultrium 1 with a 7 slot autoloader" and want to drive it with my ITSM 5.2.2.5 for DR-Backups. The ITSM is running under W2K3-Server. In the device manager of W2K3 I see the tape drive and an undefined media changer. Now I've two small questions: 1. Do I need any driver for the autoloader? 2. In which way I've to define that "library" to ITSM Thanks for any useful answers Ronald

Steve, This is interesting. In Yr3, if we just remove the remaining 3590s in the last L12 frame and replace them with bare slots, can the slots hold 3592 tapes? Restore a Lotus Domino via TSM
Hi to all, I have one question regarding TSM and TDP for Lotus Domino. I am using Tivoli Data Protection for Lotus Domino to take online backups. I have performed successfully a lot of restores but currently when i tried to restore an inactive backup of a database and then open it, i got an error message "Invalid NSF version". Re: How to define an adic FastStor LTO Ultrium 1 with a 7 slot autoloader under ITSM 5.2.2.5
In TSM 5.2 you will need to use "native" windows drivers. Download them from: ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/storage/devdrvr/Windows/Win2003/IBMTape.W32_6063.zip Before you install read the readme.txt (that's why is called readme) You will need latest drivers for your SCSI card also. Disable "Removable Storage" service in Windows, so the autoloader won't be controlled from windows. After that, you can go to TSM Management Console and use Device Configuration Wizard. It should find the Autoloader. This should work for you. Joe Crnjanski Infinity Network Solutions Inc. Open file and image backups on Linux
Dear All, Please share your experience on taking open file backup and image backup on Linux (including system files). I have been going through documentation and manuals, but there are so many IFs and BUTs involved. My scenario is to take cold backup of Oracle 9i on Linux, which is fine, but with this I need to take entire system backup so that I can restore my server real soon in case of disaster. Please share practical implementations that you gurus are using !!! Thanking you! This list has been a source of real good knowledge to me ! Kind Regards Sandra

Hmm.. then how you people are catering for this requirement??? What if someone changes system files and I need a restore? For example, The application developers came to our site and have changed so many things on our system and as they have left, we would like to keep those changes, even if we re-build our system. Re: Open file and image backups on Linux
Since when You can use the IMAGETYPE=dynamic option ! >From the 5.2.x book: dynamic Replaces the dependency on the copy serialization value in the management class to perform an image backup without unmounting and remounting the file system read-only. Use this option only if the volume cannot be unmounted and remounted read-only. Tivoli Storage Manager backs up the volume as is without remounting it read-only. Corruption of the backup may occur if applications write to the volume while the backup is in progress. In this case, run fsck after a restore. Re: Upgrading an IBM 3583 library...the 'enterprise' license
Well, finally got a statement in writing, (kind of hard to believe..) from IBM which states. "The current TSM licensing requirement states TSM will provide tape library support of UP TO 3 drives or UP TO 40 slots on TSM. Quantities of 41 or greater require an upgrade to TSM Extended Edition. " The online announce doc : http://www-306.ibm.com/common/ssi/rep_ca/6/897/ENUS202-276/index.html So purchasing extra columns doesn't require one to jump into the enterprise license, even if the total slot count is 40+. The slots are capable of holding either media. We're looking at adding 3592s to our 3494/3590 environment as well. Curtis is correct that you don't need to upgrade to an L12 if you're not going to put 3592 drives into that frame. However, you do need to have a new enough Library Manager (the OS/2 box in the L12) to support the 3592 drives. Since you only have 3590E drives, you probably will need an upgrade to the Library Manager (if you had 3590H drives, you'd probably be fine). Check with your sales rep. and support folks to figure that out for sure. And yes, the form factor for the 3592 cartridges is the same as for the 3590 carts (modulo the little nooks and crannies that the drives use to ensure they don't load the wrong type of cartridge, like 3490 vs. 3590). So both types can coexist in the same 3494 slots. Eliza Lau wrote: > > We have one L12 and two D12s. Two 3590 drives in each. Since you've got 2 D12 frames, you might consider moving two 3590s from one D12 to the other, then upgrading the first to a D22 and adding the first two 3592 drives there. Then as your need for the 3590s decreases, you can pull them out one at a time (and add drives to the D22 as growth and budget dictate). And the D22 will support up to 12 3592 drives. Don't forget to factor maintenance cost on the old drives into your decision, though. We're looking at keeping our 3590E drives (but upgrading to H for the extra capacity plus the fibre connectivity) as well as adding 3592 drives. My thinking is that the 3590s are still useful for the large number of collocated nodes that don't need anywhere near 300 GB. So we preserve our 3590K tape investment for a while longer, but consolidate the big backups (Oracle, huge fileservers, etc.) on the high-capacity 3592 tapes. -- Hello World.David Bronder - Systems Admin Segmentation Fault ITS-SPA, Univ. of Iowa Core dumped, disk trashed, quota filled, soda warm. Re: Open file and image backups on Linux
The same is the para that i have been refering to from the latest redbook. hmm that means, I can take system files backup too, without any problem with IMAGETYPE=dynamic, but that will cause trouble only in situations where forexample, syslog is written and something like that which might cause problem, otherwise the rest will be backed up and i can safely rely on the backup, just that i will have to run fsck in the end if problem is there. On the other hand, what would open file backup do, like if I take entire system backup (incremental) daily, would that suffice my requirement by taking backu pof files that are open? (obviously not oracle files/databases, but yes some system files) Kind Regards, Sandra "Stapleton, Mark" wrote: > That's what I get when I trust my memory. Re: Upgrading TSM Server from 5.1.6.3 to 5.2.3.0
I did an upgrade from 5.1.6.3 to 5.2.3.1 without incident. Just remember that in addtion to the 5.2.3.x code, you'll need a 5.2.0.0 base code. I think you also need an imtermidate level, maybe 5.2.2.0. Do a "preview yes" install to make sure you have all the needed levels. I'm running on an AIX 5.1 ML5 64 bit mode box. David >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 10/25/2004 8:37:38 AM >>> I will be upgrading my TSM Server from 5.1.63 to 5.2.3. Other than making sure I have a full backup of my database, is there anything else I should be aware of before upgrading? My server runs AIX 5.2 ML4 in a 32bit environment. Thanks, Chris.
Issues with AIX 5.1.0.7 and TSM 5.2.2.4
I upgraded from aix 5.1.0.4 to 5.1.0.7 and now when my clients connected they backup one at a time even if the storage pools for that client is empty they only backup one at a time. Have anyone seen this before I have clients connected from last night just hanging in tsm. ***EMAIL DISCLAIMER*** This email and any files transmitted with it may be confidential and are intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. Bad dsm.sys file? Backing up to wrong management class.
Hi all, I discovered something very strange with one of my nodes today. The management class configured for this node in the dsm.sys file (set with "DIRMC") is not the MC this node is sending its data to. I discovered that this node is actually using the default MC and tape pool. I can do a "dsmc show options" and see that the correct management class is configured there, i.e., it's NOT configured to use the default MC. But again, for some reason it using the default MC. Has anyone ever bumped into this before? I'm wondering if just building a new dsm.sys file won't fix the problem. Many thanks, Chris Hund

We're not clear on your expectations or what TSM operation you are performing. Remember that the DIRMc option is for directories only. Files have their management class set via Include - or they get the default MC. 'dsmc q inclexcl' gives you the scoop on prospective assignments. Richard Sims

Re: Bad dsm.sys file? Backing up to wrong management class.
Also, most Unix directory information is kept directly in the TSM database, not sent to the DIRMC. Trying to expand log with raw partition
Tsm server v5.1.9 Os solaris v2.8 I have a single raw log volume, but would like to add another. Partitions show up using format, also all permissions look the same for the one being used, (/dev/rdsk/c0t1d0s0) and new one, (/dev/rdsk/c0t1d0s1). I get the message Anr2404e volume /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0s1 not available return code 14. There is no mounted file system on the partition, and it starts with the next cyl (5805) after partition 0. linux image/snapshot
Hi! When trying to do a backup image I keep getting ANS1347E even though the snapshot is less than 1% utilized. Client is 5.2.2.6, server is AIX, 5.2.2.5 Has anyone using this utility come across this problem? workarounds? I also came across what seems to be described in APAR IC41453, about assigning a management-class to an image-backup. According to the APAR, this was projected to be fixed in levels 5.1.7.2 and 5.2.4.0. Does anyone know what happened to these levels? The APAR was closed in July, but I haven't seen any of these levels on the ftp-site yet..
Re: How to define an adic FastStor LTO Ultrium 1 with a 7 slot autoloader under ITSM 5.2.2.5
Ronald, You will need the TSM device driver for the autoloader and the IBM device driver for the drive if it's IBM LTO drive. On Windows 2003, you will need to configure the device first through device manager. Then before defining the library through the device config wizard, you can make sure the devices are properly configured by checking the device names. Management Console -> Tivoli Storage Manager -> -> TSM device driver -> Reports -> Device Information. Under Device Name, you should see lbx.x.x.x for the autoloader and tapex for the drive. The ITSM is running under W2K3-Server. In the device manager of W2K3 I see the tape drive and an undefined media changer. Now I've two small questions: 1. Do I need any driver for the autoloader? 2. In which way I've to define that "library" to ITSM Thanks for any useful answers Ronald <><><>
TDP for Notes Restore Problem
We have Lotus Notes backups done with the TDP 5.1.5 (Notes v5.x). Back in January the server name was called "TEST". In March, the server was renamed to "TEST-OLD" and we continued to do backups by creating a new node "TEST". So now we have data from Jan through March under "TEST-OLD" and from March on called "TEST"... We have not expired any data since since January.. Our normal rotation is to do a weekly full and daily incrementals. There is a problem though that i'm finding. The first full backup for TEST was done March 15th. The server rename was done on March 7th. Now when I look back i see: March 1st - Full taken now under TEST-OLD March 2-7 - Incrementals now under TEST-OLD March 8-14 - Incrementals now under TEST March 15 - Full taken now under TEST So the question is whether or not March 8-14 can be restored? It seems not unless someone has any ideas. TSM thinks there is no full for TEST prior to the 15th so how can it? Have we lost access to the data on these dates?
dsmc in OMVS is it able to save an MVS Datasets
