Even that page states "There are several different variations of the
8-bit ASCII table. The table below is according to ISO 8859-1, also
called ISO Latin-1. Codes 129-159 contain the Microsoft® Windows Latin-1
extended characters." Why should this "extended ASCII" be chosen over
any of the others?

Since UTF-8 is the standard these days, I would suggest that if any
support outside the ASCII set is implemented, it should be UTF-8 first
and by default. The C standard has UTF-8 string literals anyway, so we
should work to support that in sdcc.
