I believe, you have to add git from the savannah interface.
First log in as your administrator user.
Second, use the top navigation "Main" and "Select Features".
Then you should see git and a checkbox next to it. Check it.
>From there I believe you should submit the form.
This should be similar to how you got cvs, I think. Hope that helps.
