Thanks a lot. I did some quick tests in a VM and they looked great.

Then I wanted to test further on my main box and I managed to somehow
wreck my sane install. Been bugging me for over an hour now.

(I know this is OT in this thread, but what's happening now is that
scanimage --version shows 1.0.25 for both scanimage and backend, but
scanimage -L finds no scanners (not even my other working one). It's
not access rights.)
