Well....who would have thought....it worked: I reproduced the PASS instructions! Here's the log.... My steps: 1. make uninstalled most recent version; 2. downloaded the said revision; 3. applied the modded sanei file; 4. compiled; 5. make installed; 6. rebooted; 7. tested with the usual 3 exports.

Latest changes to pixma backend was on June 8 But to be sure, you could try to download the 14 June git image and test with it. Just go to the Web page: http://git.debian.org/?p=sane/sane-backends.git;a=shortlog and download the corresponding snapshot you want.
