I can try something like SnoopyPro (http://sourceforge.net/projects/usbsnoop/), much later. I just left town for (probably) two months and did not take the scanner with me.
The proper function of the ADF on my Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 8250 scanner has always been sensitive to the initial position of its feed roller, even when using Windows drivers under the Windows operating system. I do not have access to any Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 8250 scanner other than the one I own, so I do not know if that type of ADF behavior is common to all Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 8250 scanners. ========================== Subject: Re: [sane-devel] Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 8250 ADF issue Date: 10 Apr 2009 12:56 From: Ren? A year ago someone said the hp8250 ADF worked, no idea what changed or if there are multiple models. If you can send me the usbsnoop log from a windows machine scanning, let's say 2 pages at 200 dpi black&white (to keep the log small) I can see what I can do. ono at Safe-mail.net wrote: Using a live CD of the 20090409 daily build of Ubuntu 9.04 I used the xsane 0.996 application to run my Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 8250 scanner. Scanning seemed to work okay except for the ADF. When trying to use the ADF, the ADF begins to whir without drawing paper from the ADF tray and then an error message is generated by xsane that states 'Error during read: Scanner cover is open.' The ADF hardware on my Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 8250 scanner sometimes functions inconsistently, but this xsane error occurs every time I have tried using the ADF. I noticed some previous messages about a similar problem. http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/sane-devel/2008-November/023197.html http://bugs.debian.org/521410 Is the ADF issue going to be addressed by some future version of SANE?
