Yes I can do that. Both as user and as root. Now I don't know any commands I could give to saned to check it out further... $ telnet localhost sane Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost.localdomain. Escape character is '^]'. And when running scanimage -L on the local host as root, it identifies my scanner, but if I run it as normal user, it does not.
