Hi All This is grinding before scans begin. Its randomly happening, either before or after a preview, or a second scan. I've checked if it is the book weight and it happens with nothing on the glass bed.
So to help: OS is Ubuntu - Dapper The kernel: ~$ uname -a Linux 2.6.15-27-386 #1 PREEMPT Fri Dec 8 17:51:56 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux sane: ~$ apt-show-versions | grep sane xsane-common/dapper uptodate 0.97-4ubuntu6 libsane/dapper uptodate 1.0.17-1ubuntu4 python2.4-imaging-sane/dapper uptodate 1.1.5-4ubuntu1 sane-utils/dapper uptodate 1.0.17-1ubuntu4 xsane/dapper uptodate 0.97-4ubuntu6 sane/dapper uptodate 1.0.14-1 python-imaging-sane/dapper uptodate 1.1.5-4ubuntu1 The scanner: :~$ scanimage -L device `plustek:libusb:003:029' is a Canon N650U/N656U USB flatbed scanner :~$ sane-find-scanner found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x2206 [CanoScan], chip=LM9832/3) at libusb:003:029 this is the output before it grinds to a halt: ~$ export SANE_DEBUG_PLUSTEK=20 ; xsane [plustek] >>> INCH=0, DOY=90 [plustek] usb_ScanBegin() done.
