Using debian sarge with kernel 2.4.21. Software sane 1.0.11-3 xsane 0.92-1

This has been ongoing for several days, the scanner works fine under windows and if necessary windows can be installed on this machine for debugging. Would someone suggest the correct DEBUG_ commands to generate useful logs, I got bushed trying with insuffient knowledge. -- Cheers Russ.
