Well, seems I shouldn't have written anything to the mailing list because it turned out against me. I'm really sorry about that. I've been in contact with you about 5-6 months ago (?). Around builds 2140-2181 I believe. I was trying to pinpoint the most I could regarding the hang issues and was sending you many debug logs etc.
At the moment I DO NOT complain about the stability since as I said I do have another tasks to do, the SA is being watched by script whether it is working or not and it does work at acceptable level. I just wanted to say that THERE might be issues regarding stability and symptoms looked similar what Steve described. I do not really feel I said anything wrong apart it might not be 100% related to this thread. Br, Petr PS: been using the SA for 7 years and still I'd recommend the product if I'm asked. -----Original Message----- From: Servers Alive Discussion List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Dirk Bulinckx Sent: 17 March 2008 10:21 To: Servers Alive Discussion List Subject: RE: [SA-list] Latest build of SA is hanging and maxing out the CPU We have a few reports over the stability. Most of them are related OR to the PING (giving after a while errors like "method of ~ ..." -> developper received on Saturday new debug reports in order to find a fix for that) or to the internal TELNET server. The problem described in this thread is NOT related to any of the checks. The problem you're having I don't know to what it's related, but from what I can see in our mailbox this is NOT something you contact us about. In the last months there is no mail from you directly to me (or support), and the last mails you send to the list are not about this either. We can't try to fix an issue that is not reported to us. Dirk Bulinckx. -----Original Message----- From: Servers Alive Discussion List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Petr Bohac Sent: Monday, March 17, 2008 5:56 AM To: Servers Alive Discussion List Subject: RE: [SA-list] Latest build of SA is hanging and maxing out the CPU Mark, it is not only him who is having problems with stability of SA. I was already working with Dirk to solve the problems unfortunately I can't debug and test the all new versions they come up since I've got another tasks. I've been restarting the SA service every day just because there is 90% chance that SA hangs (hang means that you can't stop the service, the GUI is unresponsive and you can't logon to it via telnet so you have to kill it) I do agree that my setup is quite complicated and we do use almost all the checks available including unix com checks. Anyway I've been running the latest official build and have tried the latest beta but it hanged after couple of hours. So I went back. Still I think that the problems come from the ping check as majority of checks are pings. Just wanted to contribute to the discussion :) Regards, Petr Bohac IT Sr.System Administrator Nawras ________________________________ From: Servers Alive Discussion List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mark Perry Sent: 17 March 2008 02:01 To: Servers Alive Discussion List Subject: RE: [SA-list] Latest build of SA is hanging and maxing out the CPU Considering your comment: "usually making tweaks to or adding new SA checks" can you be sure that no one else is changing settings on the app rather than the service? I ask only because I have not heard of this before and find it very curious that you can duplicate this. That said could you in the interests of science and failing any explanation, create a virtual machine (from scratch or clone server with issue, can provide instructions if you need mail me. mark dot perry at telephonetics vip d.o.t co d.o.t uk) Once you can confirm a vm is having the same problem it would be extremely nice if you could reconfigure to allow others to log onto it and make checks e.g. disassociate it from your current setup and check (again) that it still doesn't work... I know its a pain but in an ideal world you'd clone it, send it to woodstone and give them the keys to your realm with a Welcome Mat. If amazingly after all this the problem is still there please send to dirk and poss myself (anyone else volunteering to look at this..) to see what and why doesn't work, obviously need logon credentials. Nothing is logged in the event log when SA goes CPU crazy. Not sure if it's relevant but to fix the problem I cannot just stop and restart the SA service as windows complains that the service is not responding. Instead, I have to kill the SA process first and then start the service. Are these servers victims of stringent Group Policy settings? Is there anything in your eventlog to indicate failures? The real cause for concern is that salive uses so many system calls it pulls in lots of modules and is likely that the cause is with one of those e.g. on my system salive pulls in all of this: ntdll.dll, kernel32.dll, msvbvm60.dll, USER32.dll, GDI32.dll, ADVAPI32.dll, RPCRT4.dll, Secur32.dll, ole32.dll, msvcrt.dll, OLEAUT32.dll, IMM32.DLL, SXS.DLL, apphelp.dll, msctfime.ime, CLBCatQ.DLL, COMRes.dll, VERSION.dll, wodSSH.ocx, SHELL32.dll, SHLWAPI.dll, WSOCK32.dll, WS2_32.dll, WS2HELP.dll, WINMM.dll, OLEPRO32.DLL, comctl32.dll, rdpsnd.dll, WINSTA.dll, NETAPI32.dll, PSAPI.DLL, mswsock.dll, DNSAPI.dll, winrnr.dll, WLDAP32.dll, rasadhlp.dll, wodsshd.ocx, Comctl32.ocx, COMCTL32.dll, comdlg32.dll, ExTree.dll, msi.dll, xpsp2res.dll, SvcIt.ocx, MFC42u.DLL, WININET.dll, Normaliz.dll, iertutil.dll, ODBC32.dll, odbcint.dll, PSWinCom.dll, comdlg32.ocx, MSComm32.ocx, MSWinSck.ocx, smpp61.ocx, xmpps62.ocx, crypt32.dll, MSASN1.dll, security.dll, SSNMPM~1.OCX, exprint.dll, WINSPOOL.DRV, udppor50.ocx, ND_SNM~1.OCX, MFC42.DLL, IPDAEM~1.OCX, IPPORT~1.OCX, pop50.ocx, snmp50.ocx, snpp50.ocx, https50.ocx, TAPI32.DLL, rtutils.dll, iphlpapi.dll, mpr.dll, ATL.DLL, RASAPI32.DLL, rasman.dll, msv1_0.dll, rsaenh.dll, hnetcfg.dll, wshtcpip.dll, wtsapi32.dll, MSVCP60.dll, perfdata.ocx, wsthread.dll, wsPingThr.dll wsThrTCP.dll, wsTPopup.dll, drprov.dll, ntlanman.dll, NETUI0.dll, NETUI1.dll, SAMLIB.dll, davclnt.dll, TabCtl32.ocx, aschedule2.ocx, msflxgrd.ocx, USERENV.dll MPRAPI.dll, ACTIVEDS.dll, adsldpc.dll, credui.dll, SETUPAPI.dll, msado15.dll, MSDART.DLL, oledb32.dll, OLEDB32R.DLL, comsvcs.dll, msdasql.dll, MSDATL3.dll, MSDASQLR.DLL, SQLSRV32.dll, SQLUNIRL.dll, NDDEAPI.DLL, sqlsrv32.rll, odbccp32.dll, wodCertificate.dll, CRYPTUI.dll, WINTRUSTdll, imagehlp.dll, PERFPR~1.OCX, wodHttp.dll, wsThrSMTP.dll, smtps62.ocx, pops62.ocx, mx61.ocx, netdia61.ocx So this might not be easy to find.... Did you run the tasklist commands ? The reason I put those in is that it might show that a rouge serversalive process running under another users context e.g. another admin running the app by mistake. 2. Also I know it is always said but is the telephony service running, I can't remember if any previous posts mentioned this and it isn't in this mail thread (see below). 3. What other services does this box host that is common to both servers having this issue (presumably you arn't dedicating them to SA)? I'll think of other stuff later, I'm up to my eyes... ;0) Mark Perry Systems & Networks Administrator Telephonetics VIP Ltd "making sound business sense" Simply dial +44 (0)1442 242 242 and ask for me by name. www.telephoneticsVIP.co.uk <http://wwwtelephoneticsvip.co.uk/> Providing innovative hosted and customer premises speech recognition and voice automation solutions. So long as only one instance is spawned in total you should be okay, but it requires a direct or console connect - if you remote in to a virtual desktop it can cause problems. Other than that my v6 and now 6.1 as of earlier this week do not exhibit the same issue, although I am not running on a server OS yet for my main SA machine. So when I double click on it I'm accessing the currently running SA service. I'm NOT running it again from the Start Menu. The SA service logs in as LocalSystem and is allowed to interact with the desktop.
