To answer that problem, here I have have some MS Access Reports using macros to fire emails. You can then schedule the Macro with windows scheduler or other (we use AutoMate now). Again this comes from v4 where the executive alerts weren't available.
Some other thoughts... I don't think it's an appropriate use of Dirk's time to have SA do much else besides the alert checking and have the output available via database. There are far too many other tools to manage reporting and the like for Dirk to re-create the wheel just so it can be convienient for SA users who don't want to take the time to create advanced reporting on their own. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for having the BASIC needs of SA users met, but if he tries to make SA reporting meet everyones definition of "pretty" then we'll never get the core advances we need (like figuring out how to get it to work correctly with the mess called Vista). After that I've got a number of SQL views to the interchange table that some EXCEL sheets are referencing to report uptime percentage. This is for version 6 and again, its complex as hell but I had good experience with TSQL. I'd love an executive report that could e-mail me with the uptime on a daily basis. Not as flexible as storing it somewhere and allowing complex references or reporting from a web page but simple and sweet. Just what you need to please a manager. Seriously though, I don't tend to think of Servers Alive as a reporting and monitoring tool but as an alerting tool. We have another department setting up LanDesk to do the monitoring and reporting but I'd still keep Servers Alive because it's a wonderfully simple tool for setting up and providing alerts to problems across an enterprise (GOD I hate those 3am SMS messages). I didn't know that it is so old. Well seems logic now that you used so complicated method as you didn't have export we got in the v6. What I did is EXTREMELY complicated, but I wrote it during version 4 of SA, so that was what I had to work with. I'm merely pointing out that you can roll-your-own uptime monitoring if necessary, and use what I did as a place to start. Michael D. If I remember correctly most of them involve sql scripts and I'm no sql scripter. The method I'm using is much easier to implement plus you get uptime for month, year etc. Btw what's better in your method? I found it rather ... Complicated to setup and to maintain. The UID is at least for me useless for any report. Ad to MOM: the SA is less accurate because a cycle takes ~5 mins. During that period some fast system could go to BSOD, restart and boot up without any notice. This is not case of the MOM as it have agent installed on the monitored server and update period is more frequent. What is the use of the UID then? And in what way is the logging less accurate then what MOM does? I find that the output from the SA is not suifficent. I mean we get only UID which si useless unless you pair it with another db (salive statistical logging) to get hostname and prettyname. Would be possible to add these 2 fields into uptime monitoring table? That would make a lot easier showing uptime for any manager ;) I've modified pretty easy asp script http://saug.snarkybox.com/index.php?topic=14.0 and get decent results. And I think it is good for for basic monitoring of systems uptime and to present some SLA (KPIs). For the accurate uptime monitoring I'm using MOM2005 but the licencing is pretty expensive so I'd like to stick w/ the SA for most of the systems.
