Sorry i took me a while to respond, i kind of forgot about this thread for 
a couple of days. But thank you so much, it works like a charm !!!!!

I'll enter the very long hostname into emacs once and for all, and that's 
going to be my favorite way of editing a file when it's a little long, from 
now on.

would sshfs work as well? not that I would know how to make it work on OSX 
though. One happy day i'll go back to Ubuntu.
