Actually, Mathematica had Manipulate before Sage had interacts. Both were after Enthought Traits (which provides similar functionality on a more general level), GLUI (http://www.cs.unc.edu/~rademach/glui/) and other various implementations of dynamic controls that automatically update variable values.
