You should try the G4 binary and see if it works, since you have a G4,
but it's possible the other one would work too. I believe at this
point any released binaries are 32-bit. If this doesn't work, you
definitely can download the source code and follow the instructions to
build your own (if you have Fink or MacPorts you may have to do
something first). You should also see about waiting for the very
imminent release of 4.1.2.

The naming convention is because we don't have automated building of
enough binaries for Mac! There is a trac ticket for improving the
naming, but no one who knows how to do it properly has worked on it
(that doesn't mean it's hard, it just means no one has worked on it).
Part of the issue is also that I don't think we have every possible
configuration available to build binaries for Mac right now; if you
count it right, one could conceivably have 32/65, PPC/Intel, G4/G5, X.
4/X.5/X.6 (not all those combinations, but you catch my drift).

However, every time someone complains about this, it will encourage
someone to do something in the build system to fix this. More
knowledgeable folks will have better comments for you. Good luck!

PS to those who wanted to drop PPC support because of some weird
failures - clearly, we still have potential users who aren't buying a
new computer soon!
