if you do 'frame=True' instead of 'axes=False' you will get unticked axes on the inside axes, but ticked axes on the outside. This may not be what you want. The function (a method of the Axes class in axes.py) that draws the unticked inside axes is not exposed through any arguments to show (looks like it probably should be though), so if you only want 2 unticked axes, what you are doing above is the best.
