Now, on WeBWorK I can just extract this info from my class registration records and sign them up automatically by uploading a .lst file in a certain comma-separated format. No sign-up necessary. That seems to be an extra step that will be annoying - especially if they don't use the canonical email address.
I added 48 calculus students to a course today, via their canonical university email addresses. Of course, about half of them had failed to remember to make accounts beforehand. But as I understand it, their course project is waiting for them and will appear in their account once they make it (I can see all 48, and some signed up during class).
Even better, a student complained after class that he had made an account but was not seeing his course project. I suggested he check the email address he used. Sure enough, he'd made a typo. He fixed it right there and his course project surfaced immediately.
So it would appear you only submit your student emails once and eventually the students can make an account and fix everything on their end, with no do-overs on your end.
