It takes me about 30 minutes to extract the information on my students (from two different parts of our university's system) to WeBWorK's certain *.lst format, and only because I have a 7-step search-and-replace script to follow, distilled from doing it several times. That exceeds my threshold for "annoying." ;-) There might be some sort of Moodle integration, but I'm not familiar with that, and don't use Moodle.

Obtaining and dumping in a comma-delimited list of email addresses takes less than five minutes.

To answer William's question, a student's ID becomes their initial password, which of course they can change immediately, and I think an instructor can force a change at any point into the early going.

There is no notion of sections in SMC, nor a hierarchy of permissions (think TA's, student tutors, etc) and many other niceties that WeBWorK has evolved through the years. But through use and suggestions, I'm sure these kinds of things will get integratd into SMC's courses. And of course, right now SMC is not trying to duplicate WeBWorK's automated grading.

I just put up a comprehensive blog post about my first couple weeks using
the very nice "course" functionality in SageMathCloud, and there should be
enough detail there to help folks get started quickly if they'd like to do
the same. Highly recommended (SMC courses, not my blog).

"Have your students signup for a free account. But most important – have them
use their real name and have them use their principal university email address
with a canonical domain name (e.g. @pugetsound.edu). You’ll search for them
later via the email address, and the names they enter themselves will show up in
score reports, etc."

Now, on WeBWorK I can just extract this info from my class registration records
and sign them up automatically by uploading a .lst file in a certain
comma-separated format. No sign-up necessary. That seems to be an extra step
that will be annoying - especially if they don't use the canonical email
address.

Does SMC support multiple sections with the same assignment easily like WW does?
(Not that WW is perfect by any means, but just wondering.)
