Yes, I think that a somewhat broader title (that might allow talks about 
Geogebra or WeBWorK or Maxima) will seem less like advertising.  Of course, 
it seems like you are proposing it just as a regular talk talking about 
something that worked well for you in class, so it seems odd for them to 
reject it (particularly if it means that you won't pay the registration fee 
now, though given the location I am guessing you will still attend).

So I would ask for some feedback, along the lines of "how can I improve my 
submission next year to make it more in line with NCTM's goals for the 
conference?"  I have to say that it certainly seems relevant, but maybe 
they have a very limited number of talks they can accept?  I'm really sorry 
you had a bad experience, but don't give up - often packaging is 
everything.

Sage is indeed awesome, but maybe this suggestion will step on even more
