The books are indeed written in OpenOffice and the bottom of the
documentation page which holds the .pdf files contains a link to the
OpenOffice files which were used to generate them:

One reason for why the books are written in OpenOffice is that I could
not think of a format which was easier for a typical high school
teacher to modify (especially since they could be exported to
Microsoft Word format if needed).

My thought was that one or more people on the sage-edu list might be
interested in converting these materials into Sage books.
