See https://trac.sagemath.org/ticket/24612 for that. It's sort-of on my radar since I did that for intervals (#24371), matrix spaces (#23719) and I'm working on multi-variate polynomials (#25558).
Unfortunately, in all 3 cases above I discovered a huge mess when looking at the code. They all involved quite a bit of work to clean that up.
