I'm also worried by the short notice. As Karl-Dieter says, the impetus behind this is that many, many users will lose access due to Google retiring OpenID. We could, of course, keep it up for those not using Google OpenID, for a bit longer - I'll leave that up to William. That could get really confusing to a lot of people. I personally won't have time to respond to a huge number of inquiries about why logins aren't working.
