Did someone meanwhile track down what exactly went wrong / broke docbuilding (such that it hangs)?
(I also deleted all temporary folders, $DOT_SAGE, and the Cython cache, ran 'sage -ba', reinstalled Sphinx and later even Python and all packages that depend on it... to no avail B) .)
