They could provide the power and cooling and maybe the space (if it is 1U). But the admin is difficult, especially for somebody who doesn't know solaris, and also necessary for security reasons (etc.). I had a (very slow) Sparc T2 donated by Sun, and I donated it to another department, since it was big (2U or 4U?), used a lot of power, was hard to admin, and as mentioned before, slow for Sage testing usage. They actually used it for something. What about QEMU: "QEMU has support for both 32 and 64-bit SPARC architectures." ? QEMU sparc on a very first intel Xeon with big cache might be faster than a Sun machine...
