Common language notions generally don't include higher than 3-dimensional 
objects, it should be clear that Sage is using the term "polytope" in its 
mathematical sense. 

Also, a manifold is not a "chamber or pipe with a number of inlets or 
outlets used to collect or distribute a fluid" in Sage.
