So with one hand the foundation publishes things like https://www.simonsfoundation.org/quanta/20130222-in-computers-we-trust/ and with the other (which does control the money) does a funding step so much out of line with this publication... It seems like these two hands not only don't coordinate with each other, but are actually unaware of each other's existence...
