about 4ti2: is there some master-plan to make sage more modular or
smaller? if so, then it would not be a good idea to make 4ti2 into standard.

A week ago i started to log what's happening on the sagemath.org
website and analyzed the resulting logfiles. The following page shows
cumulative numbers for the downloads of SPKGes, which might come in
handy!
http://sagemath.org/spkg_stats.html
Colors indicate the category, the numbers are grouped by month, and
you can also see the totals.
What counts is a "GET" entry with a status of "200" – this means, it's
easy to cheat, but it's the best we have.
The top lines also explain the time range and some averages.
The gray-scale is a linear mapping of the numbers, i.e. attention is
automatically drawn to darker areas and horizontal darker lines
highlight the most often downloaded files.
From what I've seen so far, these are my observations and action plans:
* there are more downloads than I expected
* regularly updating GAP packages should be a priority
* having sage-mode and sage_mode seems odd. I assume that's an error
and we should get rid of the 0.7 version?
* there must be something wrong with mpi4py. there are more downloads
of the older archived package than the actual one. does somebody know
more about this?
* one of the most often downloaded experimental ones is pygtk. maybe
we should promote it to optional (and probably improve it a bit if
necessary?)
* 4ti2 is downloaded often and small. what about making it a standard package?
Harald
PS: the statistical data behind this page is stored temporarily and
more information is added cumulatively every hour. so, if everything
goes well, this will someday span a year or more even if the logfiles
get logrotated. but if something goes wrong, it starts from zero.
