I don't agree.  I think we *can* make it standard.  It will just
require more work and more thought.
All smalljac does is provide a *faster* implementation of functions
already in sage.
On 64-bit it will get built and used -- on 32-bit it won't get built,
and instead we'll fall
back to using existing functionality.
