There are

1. a lot of doctests requiring gcc (due to runtime use of Cython)

2. a lot of doctests marked "optional -- gcc", mainly in misc/cython.py

What's up with this?  This should be made uniform.  I personally prefer
2. (mark as optional) such that Sage binary distributions have more
chance of passing "ptestlong" on systems without gcc.
