In the sense that you state: that a release is just a tag on the
master branch. Or in other words that the you take the log for one
version and the log for the next version is just an extension of the
former (here extension is used in the same sense L.extend(M) is used
with python lists). In set theoretic thinking, then yes subsequent
releases would be based upon previous releases.
